pistol vs banded shrimp

I have a coral banded and tiger pistol shrimp normally the banded is missing one or both of his claws and I assumed he lost a fight with the pistol...

just a little over a week ago, my pistol shrimp came out and he was missing his 'pistol' .. he still had his wannabe claw on the other side... t this time CB had both claws...

a couple days passed and pistol molted and he got his pistol back-- except it switched sides and I think it was a bit smaller than the previous..



haven't seen or heard the PS for a few days.. could the CB have killed the pistol?
the CB now hangs out where the PS always hung out..


im pretty sure one made a snack of my cleaner shrimp also... when he went in tank he went straight to the pistols burrows... he would pop up once in a while, but its been about 2 weeks so I think its safe to say he's no longer with us...


my tank is a 75 gallon.. clarkii clown, yellow tang, and long spine urchin with maybe 5 blue legs and some snails...

the CB and PS shared the same half of tank... just kind of stayed clear of each other, usually..

i have had a pistol and a pair of bandeds for a year now but i cant keep a ppermint more than a week

I had a pistol and gobie buddy in my120 with 4 peppermints and never had a problem. One day, however, after several months, I found the pepps feeding on the remains of pistol! I just thought he'd died of natural causes? Maybe not! How long do pistols live normally?

of course, the day after i post about him missing for a couple weeks... the pistol pops up... i guess the CB just ran him out of his home-- he is now on the complete opposite side of the tank...

Inverts are much more sensitive to shifts in water params, and it's not uncommon for shrimp to drop limbs from sudden changes... or it could always have been a bad molt.

I doubt the pistol is the culprit. Also, you're pistol may be burrowed somewhere out of sight. Usually you can hear a popping sound at night. If you hear that... then it's still in there... somewhere.
