placement and light intensity

Hey everyone,

Couple questions regarding my crocea clam.
I currently have him on the sand but every day, I find him off to one side, wide open but he always moves himself and falls over.
My lights are 2 75W actinics and a 10k 400W MH.

Does he have to be placed in the sand and if so how can i keep him upright?
I was thinking of using some bonding putty to stick him on the rockwork. How close to the lights can he be? He's definitly gettng enough light where he is but if I put him up on the rocks, he'll be about 12-14 inches from the MH.
Is that too close for him? Will he/ can he have too much light?
Also, what about cementing him to the rocks? Should I?

Thanks!

Michael

You know what...
I read some past threads and now see that this clam will attach itself to the rockwork eventually.
I'm glad I didn't puddy him in! ;)
How high should the first location I place him in be?
He's probably 24 inches from the halides now while in the sand and has been there for about two weeks.
Half the distance? Higher? Crocea seem to be the most light demanding.. and once he attaches, assuming he will, I cannot move him.. right?
So I should get him close enough the first time.

Thanks everyone.

i say place a shelll of some sort under him so that he can attaced to a shell than after that u can more him anywhere u want. 24 inches away from 175w could be a lil too less light.....they can never have too much light...the more light you give it the better they ll look..... you should be putting him like about at least 15 inches away from the 175w. dont put him on the sand bed...make sure he doesnt stay on his sides or he wont get the light needed...good thing u didnt puddy him.

namscam,

Yeah, I'm really glad I didn't puddy him either!

Also, I have him on the sand with a 400Watt MH not 175.

Still the same distance? Closer? further?

Thanks for the reply!

my bad i mistakenly read the 2 75w as 2 175w ahahahah how funny is that
yeah with 400w they can be placed on the sand but would be better at a higher place...but they will do well under 400 sitting on the sand

Leave him in the sand but put a rock or shell under him in the sand. Once it attaches, it will be more happy. It is off to one side probably because it is digging down looking to attach.
