placement of purple monster

I bought a frag for PM and im wondering the placement under my lights. hi flow? hi light? or otherwise?

Yes the correct placement for it is in my tank lol can really say because its Beene years since I had a frag, but I kept mine under very high lit and med to high flow and it did well.
Hope this helps

Mine is under a 400w radium, growth started to take off after hitting with lots of light and plenty of flow. I would place it upper middle to top depending on what lighting you have.

I placed mine at the very top about 6 below the water, watched it closely for bleaching for a few days. To my surprise, not only did it not bleach...it took off in terms of growth and polyp extension. I thought it was going to be 4 to 6 months before I was going to be able to get any frags, now I'm looking at maybe another 2 months and I should have a fairly good section to frag. It's encrusting and growing nicely. Only other change that may be partially responsible is adding 2 small fish to this tank, perhaps the fish poop also helped, but overall, more light and plenty of flow is what I found to do the trick. Good luck, if you have any pics, I would love to see.

I would be careful with moving to high light quickly. I am running 400W halides and have had great luck with many tough corals (dragon, shortcake, hoek, etc.) but put my monster mid-tank (with no dip from a trusted/known friend) and had it bleach within 24h. 2nd frag (different friend) same issue. Both are SLOOOOOOOWLY recovering on the sandbed, IME, work up towards top of tank, but slowly (ESP. If high wattage MH).

This is the best advise out if all.

I'm on my second trial with the PM . The first time I put it high with tons of flow I saw it bleach and die within a week. With my second one I have two month with and it's doing great low with decent flow. It's encrusting slowly and it has that deep dark purple we look for.

Good luck

Its staying stable at a pale purple after dip and clip (I dont add anyone's plugs to my tank) since 2/2/13. No improvement in color really but its 10" from my 8x24" ATI S.P.

It come from a 250w MH but at about 16-18" depth. I think there may have been a PO4 issue in his tank systems which gave it the paler purple color either that it wasnt getting enough light. Its definitely the PM based on prior photos and coralite structure.
