Planet Reef is the bomb!

It was fun to go to the grand opening of the new store Planet Reef today. Although there are some loose ends to tidy up, the store has huge potential. Can't wait to see the progress over the next couple months. :) Way to go guys!

Why is it the bomb? Can you expound a little to your statement? What are the loose ends to tidy up? Why is there huge potential? What do they need to improve on? I do not like driving/going out to West County and if the store is not fully operational then I would prefer to wait until it is. TIA

It's not west county. It's inside the 270 loop.

Pluses:
They had great prices.
Large corals.
A few hard to find species of fish.

Minuses:
Only partially stocked.
No SPS yet.
Not many larger tanks. (>75 gallon)(may have been more in the back though)
HOT! It was very warm/humid. But it was cold outside so they didn't have the doors open.

I didn't look into the fish too much as I knew I wasn't buying any. I didn't get a chance to check out the full array of dry goods either. But they seemed to have a good selection.

JX is pretty much right on. The store is not fully stocked yet, the coral/show tanks were very cloudy, no sps what so ever, some lps but seems to be growing, etc...

The positives I saw were the fish display tanks where very nice. They had a very good selection of fish, but probably will continue to grow. They spared no expense on the lighting of the displays, T5's and Reef Optix DEs. The zoa tank had a nice display of coral. The main display is very nice even if the PBTs have ich. Extremely nice and helpful employees. The LCD screens and background music is a plus for the wives. The built in Nano Cubes are a plus for the kids.

All in all the store is going to be a hit I'm sure. And, just for the record, "it's the bomb" was intended as a positive reflection of the store and it's employees. It had a very positive vibe when I walked inside. Seemed like the place to be today.

Geox, take the trip out there, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. The store is fully operational, but like I said, is still putting on the finishing touches. ;)

Oh, and one other thing... Did anyone notice if there were Salifert test kits? I didn't see any.

It sounds like it is going to be nice. I guess I will wait a few weeks before I head out there.

Did you see how all the nanocubes are on drawer shelves and pull out of the wall. Stephen was saying they'll be able to pull them out with cash/carry as complete set up systems. Not that I would buy a nanocube but if that's what you're looking for, it's cool. Just pick out the one you like and go.

I did notice that Roy. Thought it was a very cool idea. Did see if they had any Salifert test kits?

Sorry, need to correct myself on their lighting. They have Sunlight Supply T5's and Lumen Max DE pendants, not Reef Optix. I was excited when I was typing. :)

I didn't wimp out. I....er.....had other important family matters come up that had to be attended to. :mixed:

And where were you? I probably could have gotten that pump from you yesterday.

Oh no! I forgot all about it and told him I'd bring the stove and coffee to keep warm!! That parking spot did seem to have a pretty large concrete stopper. I hope he wasn't wearing a yellow shirt! :eek1:

Interviewing someone to watch the kids over the summer. We don't want them growing feral in the backyard again this year.

I have a few extra large dog cages if you need to borrow them.

Well that would be cruel and unusual. A long leash and a choke collar are much more humane.

That or a hot Swedish au pair...

Becareful they have a tendency to shake kids

Planet Reef has a sweet setup. I can't wait until they are fully stocked. We picked up a few things for Mini Me's tank and they are doing great. The Zoanthids are AMAZING. One rock had 2 different colored greens (one w/ green centers and one with orange centers) and they were all open about 10 minutes after getting into the tank at home. They are beautiful!!

Dave tried to take them from Mini Me - he was all set to pull hair and everything - seriously, it's a good thing there was another nice rock to appease the man.

We'll try to get pics up so you can see - the prices were unreal. We picked up two rocks that were so large I was able to break them apart and put big pieces into both her tank and mine.

Not only did we get good stuff at a great price, but everyone was super friendly and helpful. Marty did a great job w/ the opening this weekend.

The light of truth needs to be shone upon the story. See, I was pointing out some zoas that I liked to Curt and Becky's eyes got real big. I turned to find someone to get them out of there for me and when I turned back around, here Becky has mini-me by the ankles and she's diving down in there and grabbing the rock I had been pointing at! She grabbed it and a smaller rock and when she got pulled back up out of the water again, she threw the smaller rock at me, hitting me in the head. By the time I was able to see clearly again, they had checked out and were heading out the door. I had to settle for my second choice. Guess I'll know to move faster next time.

:D

LOL

I KNOW NOTHING!!!
