I've got two of these growing off the same rock in my tank. They look like some type of kelp. Anyone know what it is? Is it something I need to get rid of or is it good to keep?

Thanks!

Maybe sargassum? I don't know how to spell it. :D Most people just leave it and it usually dies out. I'd probably just wait and see if it takes over before removing.

Looks like Sargassum to me but I'm not positive. Many like it. I'm actually gonna set up a Sargassum tank this summer, but of the floating kind. I pulled mine out of my reef tank though. I have an algae problem and the Sargassum was collecting detritus and algae. Its up to you really.

I had a bunch come on some rock and it began taking over my tank until I put my naso in it. In two days, it was completely gone:D

Its sargassum. I dosed my tank with Iron and the sargassum grew clear to the top of the tank. Filled a 5 gallon bucket when I finally removed most of it. And my Naso loved it too.

Mais oui, Sargassum. Could be S. hystrix but the midrib vein doesnt look quite white enough. As others are reporting, many tangs and rabbits find it tasty. It doesnt typically pop up in several areas in a tank, so manual removal might be an option if you dont want it in the system.

Good to know it's nothing super bad. I haven't had any tangs in the tank up until today. I got a Yellow Eyed Kole this afternoon, wonder if he will clean it up?

Thanks!
