Anyone know what kind of plant this is? It is spreading really fast. Thanks

Caulerpa Racemosa, Looks like to me. But Caulerpa of some kind for sure. I would try and get It all out B4 It takes over your tank as It Is very Invasive once established. It seems to have a pretty good start from what I can see.

Caulerpa for sure. That stuff grows like weeds. It is actually outlawed in the state of California. You get a big fine for dumping it outside. It will get in the water system and choke out everything around it. Better get the weedeater out.

Razor Caulerpa is the common name for it. This stuff will overgrow your tank in no time. Be careful! I don't think any tangs will eat it, but I may be wrong.

Try Algaefix Marine and see If that will kill It. If you do nothing you will wind up having to take the rock out and bleach It. This Is a major problem once established It will choke your whole tank.

Thanks for the link Sandalscout! I think it is hit or miss on the Tang thing. I have always looked at it as if they will not eat cheato then they generally will not eat caulerpa. They are a tougher type algea, unlike your hair algae that is highly palatable. It's hit or miss though in my opinion.

My Regal and Yellow Tang ate the Razor Caulerpa in my tank. Especially the Regal (Dory), that tang eats any algae I think! She have eaten Razor Caulerpa, Bryopsis, Hair Algae, some sort of hard grass algae, some other red algae that grew from my rocks, etc etc.

You should rent your regal tang out, Michael... you'd make a killing!

Tell me about it! BUT she can be a MEAN fish!!!!! She's killed my group of large Green Chromis that she grew up with. She's killed my group of Anthias. She's A LOT better then she was and have been a model citizen for awhile now, but just recently she started nipping at the Foxface's Tail again. I've had Dory for about 3 years. Got her as a baby from Alabama along with those Chromis.

My yellow tang devours the stuff. I have it growing in our seahorse tank and take pieces out to feed the yellow tank in my main tank.

I used It once B4 with no side effects to remove hair Algae that was running wild! It worked well, It may reduce the Coralline In your tank also but mine came right back. It requires several treatments over a period of time to be successful though, It takes time but did work for me. You will see a lighter color on all algae then It will turn clear and die, Then It can be siphoned out during a W/C.
Just go slow Chris like with all medications their may be risk!
Nothing bad happened In my case...
Bill

I used Algaefix with no issues. It works pretty good, but like with everything else, only a temporary fix. Must get to the bottom of the problem.
