plate coral? question or two

First, is this a plate coral? I bought it as part of great CL deal, seller said it was a plate coral.

Second, it's not attached to anything, should it be?

And anything else I should know to care for it?

That is not a plate coral, which usually refers to Fungia, Heliofungia, Cycloceris and a couple other genuses. What you have is a "plating" Montipora, possibly Montipora capricornis.

It an SPS and you'll need to watch calcium, alk, and magnesium if you aren't already. It can suck it up. Otherwise it is pretty easy as far as SPS go.

Great piece...they usually will attach themself to whatevers close and then it will grow out from their...IMO most people on CL have no clue what they have haha
