plate coral?

the tenicals are not expanding, it is slowly turning white in areas, and is as hard as a rock. did it die? should I remove it from the tank? everything else in the tank is fine.
 
I've personally found them to be difficult coral. If the white skeleton is showing, it's doomed if not dead already. I'd move it to the sump if you're not certain that it's dead, though if it is dead there isn't much or really, any harm it can do in the reef.
 
A dead plate coral may reproduce: they grow little corals around the rim. Leave it as is. Have you tried laying a bit of chopped shrimp on the disk? This may wake it up. They like bright light, medium flow, and need to be on the substrate, never in the rocks.
 
I had one up and fall apart on me... Pieces ended up all over the place... I now have a couple of young plates growing in my sump on only 10K lighting! I don't get it.
