Plate Coral's Mouth open?

I just bought a plate coral today. He's been in for a few hours and his mouth?? is wide open. What's the deal? Should I be worried? Is he just hungry?

Unfortunatly there is not one answer to your question. I have had plates gape from moving them and the stress and they recovered just fine. On the other hand ones that I have had that died showed the same behavior.
Whatever you do don't take it out and throw it away. Even when a plate seems completly gone it will sometimes come back or produce babies off to the sides.

You can try to spot feed it a little. Maybe a couple small pieces on the tentacles. Don't put the food in the mouth. If he's hungry, he'll walk the food up to the mouth.

As nano said, if it starts to decline don't get rid of it. I had a plate that was 99.9% skeleton, with the smallest strip of flesh still left. And after moving it to another tank, it's now back to 85% of what it was originally, with two small baby plates growing off it.

Some days it looks good and all the spikes are out like they should be, and others his spikes are sucked in. Clove problems aren't the greatest either? Just getting use to the new tank? Pretty new system
