Plating photosynthetic sponges

Hi, I know this issue has been discussed in the past but it doesn't appear to have been discussed frequently.

Does anyone know anything about the photosynthetic plating sponges like the blue sponge available on aquarium depot? Previous forums mostly just discussed whether they grew or not. Are they toxic? Has anyone had them become invasive? Has anyone got them and really regretted it? My sump is full of pineapple sponges, do I still need to dose silicates?
Thanks for any additional info you guys can provide.

Sponges are cool. My only regrets with buying sponges is when they don't make it. Very unlikely to become invasive. They grow too slowly. You can trim any that grow where you don't want them. Silicates are helpful for silica-based sponges. But not all are. Some like calcium.

Not a lot of great info aimed at aquarists. Google your questions. You'll often get good scientific articles that will be helpful.

Good luck!
