I bought this for my 2x4 DIY stand for a 40 Gallon Breeder. Is this wood good for it?

It should be a lot stronger then the pine stands that are sold with the tanks. They are only stapled together.

Depends on how it is built. However, dimensioned lumber is not required to safely support any normal standard sized tank. The produced stands are minimal, because that is all that is necessary for these light loads. A plywood box, is more than enough to hold up a tank.

Untill torn down for rebuild, I had a 2x4 stand for a 75gal for years with no issies.
