OK guys I have an 80 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump.. A shallow sand bed with about sixty pounds of live rock. I have a remora HOB skimmer currently hanging on the sump. I am really unsure what fish I can safely keep so I wanted to list some of my favorites and see if I can have them all together or which ones wont work. Thanks

2 clowns (Ocellaris tank bred)
1 porcupine puffer
1 six line wrasse
1 raccoon butterflyfish
1 one spot foxface
1 blue tang
1 green clown goby
1 Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish
1 yellow tang

Would these fish get along and how many would I be able to do in an 80 gallon? Thanks guys

The list is quite good. However I would not put a blue tang in there due to the adult size it could grow to.
The puffer IMO is not a good choice with the rest of the fish you have--it will bully them

I am assuming that you are going to keep this tank a fowlr with the addition of those butterfly fish

Hello to my fellow reefers!!!! Its been awhile since I've stopped in :(
Anywho...quick reminder..I have a 55g reef. Currently working with aquaclear 110 and protein skimmer...my current tenants are a Starry blenny, dusky jawfish, 2 bleen chromi, sharknose goby, dolabella seahare, 2 peppermints, emerald crab, 3 nerite snails, nassarius snail, 6 assorted hermits. I have an arrangement of corals soft and hard... and a golf ball size clam that I don't know name, but not maxima. He's cool, red inside.
So, I would like to know what I can add that would be fun? Meaning, I would like another swimming fish, not one that just hangs here and there. Something like a longnose butterfly (can't get him though) I'd basically just want to see something swim back and forth in my tank that won't kill everything in there. 2nd time around, I'm trying to go nonaggressive. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I use to have a blue indigo hamlet that was gorgeous and enjoyed swimming the tank, but he'd kill everything I have. PLEASE HELP! lol :)
BTW..sorry so long...I would like something biggish (med) and colorful
Thanks again!

ohhh... lol... have one more question. I know starry blennies can be aggressive, BUT...
can I put a tiny starry (about 1 1/2 in) with a full grown starry??? Is it a bad idea?

Newbie looking for fish suggestions - PLEASE HELP!

Hey ya'll, COMPLETE NEWBIE here looking for fish suggestions.

I just got a 46g tank, Magnum 350 cannister filter, 40 pounds of live rock, and sand yesterday. My local fish store has already put everything together for me (everything in the tank now but fish) and I know I'll have to wait 2 weeks for everything to cycle before I put any fish in there.

But I'm having a hard time deciding what I fish I want to put in the tank after everything cycles. I was thinking around 4-6 fish total, possibly 1-3 of them being Clown Fish and maybe a Dwarf Lionfish (but maybe that'd be too agressive a fish to start out with).

Can ya'll give me some suggestions of what to stock my tank with?

If anyone would like to send me an email at schmobbs@hotmail.com with any more in depth advice, I'd REALLY appreciate it. I'm brand new to this and don't want to make any really stupid decisions.

Thankyou,
-Rob

[welcome]

bangii cardinals
fire gobies
coral beauty angel
anthias
blue green chromis
purple dottyback
gobies
blennies
are all popular starter fish

nix the lion fish---most of the fish above could fit in his mouth.

So after 3 years of slowly stocking my aquarium I am near completion. I have a 135 gallon mostly SPS reef with a few LPS corals. (acan, chalices, torch, bubble, frogspawn). A deal came by because my friend is tanking down his FOWLR aquarium and is willing to give me his Copperband Butterfly for 25 bucks.

The other inhabitants are:

Yellow headed sleeper goby
Coral Beauty
Bartlett Anthias
Lawnmower Blenny
lined rabbitfish
Tail Spot Blenny
2 O. Clowns
Bangaii Cardinal
Chevron Tang
Hippo Tang

Am I fine with the final addition as originally planned?

Thanks guys!

I am nearing the completion of my tank cycle and I am double checking my planned stock list. It is a 55 tank with a 15 gallon sump. It will be mainly LPS though a few SPS might go in there (175 Watt MH). I intend to have a Crocea clam eventually (once the tank has matured more). I would appreciate feedback on the following list..obviously I will be adding slowly over time...I would appreciate feedback on compatibility (with other fish as well as LPS and clams), along with whether this is too heavy a bio load, or whether I have room for anything else....
-2 Percula Clowns
-6-line wrasse
-Royal Gramma
-Purple firefish
-Cardinal fish
-yellow clown goby
-Wheeler’s watchman goby
One other "maybe" would be some kind of blue/yellow damsel by itself...though I will be doing more research on this first.....

I would limit the tangs to one.

Coral beauty is probably the safest bet between the three

the rest of the list is great and would not max out your tank depending on how much live rock you have.

So i can only have one Tang? Is it (a) due to my tank being too small (not long enough). (B) Fighting since they are both the same cigar shape. (C) all of the above.
If the answer is (B) would it make a difference if they are the same size(small) and added to the tank at the same time?
I know the answer is most likely no but i have to ask.

It is mainly due to the tank size---and related to the possibility of fighting also.
If a fish(not necessarily a tang) begins to feel threatened because its territory is shrinking then it can be agressive towards other fish the same and different.
Since tangs need alot of swimming room (territory)and they will get bigger then you would be really taking a chance with 2 of them in a 90 gal.
Further, a yellow tang and a purple tang are an iffy mix to begin with.
Usually reefers suggest you add the yellow or the purple tang last if you are adding a number of tangs which can reduce the possilbility of agression by each but you can't count on it for sure.
Adding them at the same time in cases can work also but again you can't count on it.

In any case if you want to be cautious then I would add all your other fish first and then either the yellow or the purple tang last.

BTW
those were good inferences on your part---except the cigar shape body reason--;)

Copper banded butterflys are
difficult to get to eat
very timid
the least problem butterfly fish as coral eaters

Since the cbb is not new it is probably eating, you have a relatively non agressive crew planned so IMO you should be okay

If you run into problems with it eating then you may want to consider quaranting it and experimenting with different food til you get it to eat on its own, At that point introduce it to the other tank mates

BTW
the secret to longetivity with a cbb is to find a supply of live black worms.

Please do not put a damsel in there with what you have chosen. As the grow up they can become very nasty ad the purple firefish would probably be the first to be picked on.
Also I would substitute the six line with another wrasse like a fairy wrasse. I have had lots of problems with sixlines beating up on purple firefish and cardinal fish
I would also suggest to add the cardinals and the firefish in pairs---they stick together and look as they are open swimmers(your reef will look very active)

Thanks capn! I went to get him today and he's grazing the rocks. I'm sure he'll go through all my feather dusters and tube worms. He's eating frozen mysis. I'll try and find black worms here in Montreal

great keep us posted how the whole stocking goes:thumbsup:

Thank you capn_hylinur for the great advice. What would be a proper size tank for 2 Tangs?
I was planning on adding the yellow or purple last, but i would like both of them oh well.
Since i have not ordered my tank yet i might go with a bigger tank 120 gal if that would work.

your welcome
120 would work if it is a long 120gal, rather than high. The tangs need to be able to have the feel of open water.
