What about this...I really want to add this beautiful Sea Grass Wrasse, looks way better than anything you find online. I have a 265DT about <half full of LR, lots of swimming space as well as hiding spots, but here is what is in it all ready.

Chocolate tang ~4.5"
Yellow tang ~4"
PB Tang ~7"
Naso Tang ~8" (with streamers)

Lunar Wrasse ~7.5"
Humu Trigger ~5"

Koran Angel~5"
Barrtlets Anthias ~3"
Yellow tail Damsel ~1.5"

Peacock Mantis ~5"
Snow Flake EEL~9"

So thats about 48" of piggy fish- I forget the rule of thumb for loading. I want to add this Sea Grass wrasse, and maybe a pair of Black percs some day. Am I pushing it?

I have about 40g sump with fuge, EV1000 skimmer and 100 micron filter socks lots of soft corals and some nitrates. Little to no agression, PBT has ick, but is clearing up well, no other fish have any signs of it.

Looking for (informed) opinions
thanks!

LM Blennies can bully other fish, but if you haven't seen any aggression, I'd be surprised if that was the culprit.

I'm just not sure what happened. The Tang looked all roughed up. The fins, as well as the side of it. Maybe it was the Blenny, and I just didn't notice it. Thanks.

55Gal Tank
What I'm wanting to add in the next few months:
1 yellow tang
2 Clowns ( don't know what type yet)
1 YWG and a shrimp to match it with
and possibly a "bigger" fish ... something like a coral beauty or a butterfly.
Am I expecting too much from my tank?

I do not think so. It depends what you mean by 'bigger', like a jawfish or like a sailfin tang.

However, I do not think that a 55Gal tank is large enough for a yellow tang, or any tang for that matter. I have a 90Gal and think it just barely big enough for a scopas and a powder brown. Yellow's even on a low end should have 75 minimum. I wouldn't think about any tang's until you get something larger.

What are some good fish for a 10g for a beginner?

This list is in order from most appropriate to least appropriate but considered by enough people to be safe. You will have to decide for yourself if these fish really belong in a 10 gallon tank. I do not believe half of them do, if not more. This list is not mine, it is from another site but I believe the information to be fairly accurate and well accepted.

As far as how many, it depends on _exactly_ what combo you decide on. Take a look at this list and let us know what you decide and go from there :)

It's going to have live rock (how much should I have? 10lbs?)

You should have 10-20 pounds depending on how dense it is, I would put enough to almost fill it up to the top in the back.

mechanical filtration with an aquaclear 30 filter (or could i do aquaclear 20? A high gph is best right? Also, shoot me if I can't use that filter. I use it on my fw but I'm not sure about sw...) and 1-2 inches of sand, 3-4 if I decide to get something that likes to burrow.

You will want to have approximately 200 gallons an hour of flow in the tank. A minimum of 100 gallons per hour would be required. Your mechanical filtration is no good. The live rock is your filter, you don't need another filter, you should get a sump though because a 10 gallon tank with fish is going to produce a lot of nitrate when it gets established. Are you only going to put fish in the tank or put corals too? You will need to do regular water changes.
Your can put a 150 gph powerhead in the tank to move water around your live rock and that will be a good filter. Two 100gph powerheads would be best. 2-3" of sand should be more than enough. I would lean toward 2" if you like the look.

Hope this helps some. You should read a lot more. Saltwater tanks are difficult, expensive and take lots of time compared to freshwater.

I was thinking they could go in 55s... guess I was wrong. So would my list, minus the tang and "bigger" fish, be all i could fit in my 55? or could I add 1 or two more?

1 or 2 more would probably be fine. Just add them slowly and when you get to the point where you have the ones you talked about, you will have a better feel for how things are doing and you may have room or may decide it would be too crowded.

good luck

I have a 50 gal that I want to try some corals in eventually. I would really like some feather dusters too. Right now I just have 2 firefish and a couple hermits. I could get rid of one firefish if I need to make room. What I would like is a Ocellaris clownfish, a clown and/or neon goby, 3-5 balck bar chromis, and a flasher/ fairy wrasse. If I still have room and no issues there, the jawfish intrigue me as well. Will be a adding some ornamental shrimp too (coral banded or peps). What about porcelin crabs in this setup? Thanks!

I'm currently cycling a 30 gal long tank (36X12X16) and am thinking of a stocking list. Here are fish I want but want to know what pairing would be the best. I'm going to be running an HOB CPR refugium w/ protien skimmer and I just put a maxijet 1200 mod onto the skimmer. I'm putting a deep sandbed and lr into the refugium and shallow sand bed or deep if I go w/ a shrimp goby pair (undecided). 150W mh w/t5 and moonlight CADLIGHT fixture. I am going to have a mixed reef w/ mostly LPS corals. Also a pretty standard cleaning crew. Here is a list of fish and inverts I want to know you thoughts on the best pairing(I know I can't have them all)
List: Pair of perc clowns
swissguard basslet
potters, cherub, coral beauty or flame angel (I know its a risk w/ a reef)
pj, banggai or redstripe cardinal fish
shrimp goby pair
goby, jawfish or blenny
firefish
sally lightfoot
emerald crab
staghorn hermit
What are your thoughts? Especailly with the crabs.
I like the clown pair with basslet and a goby of some kind. Also, thanks in advanced

I know I recently posted in here, but I just got a great deal on a bigger tank so I rethought my new fish. I am looking for a bit more movement, the clowns like to hang out in their spot and 2/3 of the tank is unoccupied. I need something that is a bit hardy because the tank gets moved a couple times a year (college).

So in a 24 Nano Cube w/ 30lbs of LR, skimmer, and possibly adding a HOB Fuge

2 Ocellaris Clowns (I have)

and then 1 of the following (I just want 3 fish):

Coral Beauty Angelfish (Or any angel that is least likely to nip at my LPS)
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
Midas Blenny
Blue/Green Chromis
Royal Gramma
Solon Fairy Wrasse

I'm down to adding my last few fish which will be a pair of ocellaris clowns and a coral beauty. I was thinking I should add the clowns first, but I was wondering if it matters too much - will the angel push them around if they're added after?

since the clowns are open water swimmers and teh coral beauty a reef inhabitor IMO it doesn't matter much.

coral beauty is a very busy fish

the sally lighfoot is questionable in any tank. It can grow to 12 inches, is super fast and can take out fish very easily when it gets bigger.

coral beauty or potters are the least chancy with corals
pj is a loner, banggais and redstripes are very active fish that will coexist with one or more of the same species

I would cut the number of chromies down to two--or they will do it for you:)
That would also allow you to have the numbers of fish you suggested.
All crabs are opportunist meat eaters--i would just stick with the hermits

Great list--thanks for posting

I agree with damsels but in a damsel only tank.

cool, glad to see someone else jumping in here :) -- I was starting to get overwhelmed!

Could you offer me any advice, my post is quite a ways up.
