clostridium

Hi to all. I bought new pair of picasso's. Are they premium class? Or less ??

Designer fish caused by inbreeding. This is gonna start a firestorm on my comment. Oh well...

Not really gonna debate about designer Clownfish but... the very nature of designer Clownfish are that they are hybrids. Most of the ones out there are intraspecific hybrids, aka they're still the same species, just breed from different individuals from different areas with different colorations/patterns. I.e. rather than being inbred, they actually need to be crossbred to get all this different patterns and colorations.

Anyways, just wanted to clarify that, for future references. :)

OP: They look alright. I honestly wouldn't bother with 'grades'. If you like them, then they're for you. I don't like their facial coloration, but that's just me.

Love their pattern though. :)

??This is reef central not idiot central, I have rarely seen idiotic arguments here, that's why I refer this forum to others and not our auz marine forum.

Now clostridium, can I use your pic else where to show a nice pair of picasso's?

As you probably know, there isn't a standardized way of grading in terms of quality of fish. Using words like "premium" alludes to a certain level of quality. The only grading of picassos that people agree on is by pattern, which uses an A-C rating system. In your case, since the white areas don't meet, then your clowns would both be grade B. But, as I said, since this doesn't grade or rate the quality of the fish, it says nothing about the overall quality of your fish. For example, perfect looking grade B fish could easily produce better offspring than cull-worthy grade A fish.

If you're looking for our opinions on the quality of your fish in terms of other physical attributes (shape of jaw, head, fins, proportion, etc), we'd be happy to offer our opinions. We'd need to see a lot more photos though.

I think most people grade Picasso as
A-all three bars connected
B-two of the three bars connected
C-three bars are separate, not connect

However, people can grade them how ever they want. There is not a convention where people decide how to grade these fish.
Like D-Nak, I consider the shape first then color-pathern as secondary.

Hybrids are offspring from parents of two different species: mules are crosses between horses and donkeys. Picasso clowns are typically a single species: percula, and this are not hybrids. Hybrids can be a sticky topic around here.

Agreed with others. Who cares what the "grade" is. Would you like them any less if they were "grade C" and nearly worthless? If you like the way they look, that's what counts.
