Please help identify and how to get rid of this growth on my rocks that kills any sps

It's some sort of algae or mushroom not sure but it wins the battle every time it touches anything anyone seen these before or know what it is my sps loose every time I tried putting superglue on it no luck

It resembles a sponge, some can be very brutal to anything near them. I have a purple sponge that kills SPS and even GSP if it gets too close.

It's sprouting up other places crap!!! I may need to remove rock it's on but there huge pieces thanks for the replys ya I've had that Christmas tree rock for. 2 years the porite corals doing really good as we'll

Some of these sponges can be pretty invasive and annihilate everything in their way. Check out JBNY's thread...he had to take out the rocks...tried lots of stuff.

JB did mention in his thread that injecting Muriatic acid into the base of the sponge killed it. But I think in his take the stuff was covering a lot of the rocks where it had been growing for years.

I would first try injecting kalk water into the sponge or whatever it is. You will need to get hold of needles and syringe etc. If the Kalk water doesnt work, try the acid, BUT BE CAREFUL. Use safe measures etc. Dont blame me if things go wrong.

The other thing you can do is inject Hydrogen Peroxide into the sponge. Turn pumps off etc before hand. If it starts to melt...siphon out the crap.

Have you tried just placing a large flat piece of putty (roll out on a table etc). Literally cover the damn thing.

I haven't tried covering it with putty that's a good idea .... Don't know why I didn't think of that I did put a generous amount of super glue on a rock and put on top but it eventually grew around it .... But I did leave edges exposed so could be why thanks for all the ideas and I won't blame u lol

I have a very similar sponge in my tank. Encrusting, not spongy like most sponge, actually shiny under some light. It is weird and yes it can take over. Let me know if you find a way to get rid of it.
