Sorry, but you need to provide some info and maybe a better photo? I wouldn't have said it was algae except that's what you said it is.

That could be cyanobacteria, but I'm with Ron. . .there's no way to tell for sure from that picture. If you can't post a better picture (try a service such as Photobucket or Imageshack that will allow you to attach an image to your post), can you at least describe the algae (or possibly bacteria)? Does it look like a film, or is it made of individual strands? Can it be easily removed? What does it feel like (slime, bristles, hard, soft, etc)?

The "algae" is present only in that rock (growing since +- 6 months) green at surface red at borders, it is thick, soft, very difficult if not impossible to remove by hands and it has a grass like texture with numerous little strands.

Ill try to take a better photo later.

Thanks

Sounds like something I've had. I always called it red hair algae, but I know that's not the correct term for it. If it's the same stuff, I didn't have too much trouble with it, but I did have to manually prune it every couple of months. I also kept a pretty low nutrient system. So, it wasn't a huge issue for me, but I'm not sure if my crabs or snails ever ate it, and if I had to categorize it, I'd still call it a nuissance algae.

Again, though, I can't be certain we're talking about the same thing.
