Please help me identify this clam.

I believe it's a crocea clam. You need strong lighting to keep clams, along with high water quality. When they are small, you also need to feed them phyto since they can't produce enough by photosynthesis yet.
One question, why would you purchase/obtain an animal without knowing what it was and what its requirements are? Not trying to be mean, but it's usually better to do the research first.
Hope that helps!

LOL I got my new 150watt mh and also hooked on the 2x55watt pc and saw him at the lfs and wanted it so I talked the lfs to let me have it for $25. Its about 3". It was too good of a deal to say no. So now I am trying to learn about it to make it happy. Its my first baby clam you know.

TJ hit the nail its a crocea for sure...a high light clam...since its looks a little stresed I recomend that you use the bowl feeding technique and give it a small amount of DTs or home brewed live phytoplankton...position it on a an old clam shell or flat rock..one that you can remove from the tank so that the clam can be fed some....

also It can be stresed by not having enough light since it was taken from the ocean and transported acrost who knows where...also I would look to see if there are any rice like looking pyrmidal snails on it...and make sure that it dosent get to much flow ither...

It is much appreciated Scuba Dog. I will do what you said and see how it goes. I will post follow ups when it gets better. How long must I let it sit in the bowl to feed for? Should I put it closer to the top of the tank where it will be 12-14" from the light or leave it where it is now where its 24-26" from the light?

Da85CBears: I just wanted to let you know that I was just trying to help. From the limited info you originally posted, it sounded like you "bought it on a whim" and weren't setup with the proper equip.
Regarding the feeding, when mine was small I let it sit in the bowl for about 10-15 mins. I have 250w MH and my clam is about 12" from the lights. I would say put it up higher, espc. due to the lower wattage.
Good Luck!

Oh I know man. I am trying to learn from people here so I cant really take anything wrong if they are telling me what I should have done. Its part of the learning process you know. So any info you can give me from your own exp I will try.
