Please test your water, then post. So we can start to help you out from there....Im sure well find something iffy.

Hows ur temp?Ph:SG:Nitrite/ate.

When was the last time you introduced a fish?

Was there any agression between any of the fish. If you water params are fine. It can be a number of things. Fish just die. Its life:(

Usually if you observe your tank daily wich Im sure you do you can sometimes determine what, and how a fish died.

really thoughwhat have you done different in the passed week? nitate of 15 is not good but it should not kill fish... whats your ammonia level?

Fish won't even notice nitrate ~15.

My guess is temp or O2, but that's probably because those were the two things that caused random fish kills in my tank...

7.9 is low.

If your topping off with tap water thats whats causing you really low ph. Youll need some typ of buffer if you not topping of correctly.

Use Kent Marine Super Buffer+DKH.

Remember you have a really small system just got to be careful when you get swings like that. Youll also need to get a skimmer.

Ive seen many large systems run notoriously with out a skimmer for years! I rarely see small systems go skimmerless for 1 year+ without a high dying rate of fish.

so i dont have much surface agitation(speaking of which i have changed the powerheads around a little) so should i get an air pump for o2? or what temp has been at around 82 for the last couple days althought it got to 84 one day

ya sam i know when i saw the 7.9 i was asstounded i have been putting in the kent dkh to raise it but i didnt know it had FELL it was at 8 when i started i dont top off with tap i use ro

Although water parameters are relatively poor, I suspect disease. No QT, I assume? With poor water quality AND disease, few fish can recouperate. Adding so many fish at once, I would not rule out an ammonia spike either.

The low pH makes me feel that O2 is also probably quite low, particularly since you are also using an additive. With all the AC running lately, it's hard for us all to keep O2 levels up lately. Get those windows open, get the surface of the water agitated and run a skimmer if you can -- even a lousy skimmer that produces no skimmate will get O2 in the water. Also be sure to aerate topoff water and water change water very well; at least 24 hours. I would consider running an airstone temporarily as well to be on the safe side, unless you get an O2 kit and know your reading.

Combine higher than optimal nitrates, low O2, low pH, high temp and the stress of moving, and sick fish hardly stand a chance.

Sam, you have the water reversed -- unbuffered RO causes pH to drop because the pH of RO is low (~6.0). In LA, the pH of tap water is usually pretty high (~8.2). Unfortunately, it's the only thing that would recommend local tap water!

What is your Alkalinity? The buffer increases alkalinity more than regulating the PH

He didn't ask about water temp! ;)

I think Nicole nailed it. Small(ish) tank and hi temps make for poor O2 levels quickly.
