I know there is probably nothing I can do but wait it out. I bought my jawfish two years ago and has been a happy camper ever since. At first it was touch and go he hid for several months and almost starved if he wasn't as fat he wouldn't had made it. Starting yesterday he acted strange was slow coming out but did eat. Today he stayed mostly hidden in his den every now and then he peek outside. This isn't his normal behavior he usually hoovers outside his den and darts for food. I tried to feed him tonight but he wouldn't come out like he was hiding or scared. Not sure if he is sick or not. He rearranging his den yesterday moving rocks around and left it partially finished which is unusall. He always has a single borrow hole today he has two never seen him do that before during the two years I've had him. Any ideas what is wrong with him?

He may be reacting to a water spike. Wether ammonia or nitrates, or simply an increase in salinity. Have your levels remained pretty constant? Hope he keeps eating and gets back happy!

Do a search on how long jawfish live, you will find not very long. Best thing to do is buy a juvey next time. I am hoping yours pulls through

My water quality is satisfactory. I did research how long jawfish live and found it's 5 years. This makes me sad because it's logical to beileve hes nearing the end of his life. I've had him a good two years now he probably was already a couple years old to begin with. My next question is what if he dies and if he does how do I get him out of his borrow not really wanting to tear down my massive rock work. Will it really shock my system leaving him in the hole and if I buy another someday will the new guy use his old borrow?

He popped his head out this morning and acted like he would eat when feeding the other fish. I took a turkey baster and tried giving him some food he opened his mouth to eat but not sure. Just hate seeing him like this a second day.

I was thinking several days ago I fed some crushed Green Algae Wafers to my algae eating crew. These are really hard stuff and my jawfish grabbed one or two pieces. Could this be the problem is he having digestive track problems caused by these hard wafers?
