Please help... SPS keeping sucks!

3" off the water is too close, how many bulbs? You may be burning the sps. I have my T5's 7" up. The pic looks like the tips may be burned and the algae is growing on the dead tissue.

I'd move it up 3 or 4 more inches and get some more water movement. I have some starter sps that I can give you once you make those changes so we can see if that does it.

I was planning on getting a MP10 this weekend but is it really worth the 200$...? Thats a lot for a small pump lol.

Have you checked for flatworms? Humour me and do a dip and see if anything falls of the acros. In my battles with flatworms I've seen them start with the tips & work their way down. Once in the water column I think they just start eating wherever they happen to land.

I'm very new to sps too, but my birdsnest has done the same thing. I'm almost sure it was my fault for not acclimation to new light. I didn't even ask the guy where be had it in his tank, and I did lack flow, but that's not the case now. And 2 mp40w es and a slower acclimation and I think things are turning around. I'm almost positive I burned it, and had less than adequate flow. Best of luck.

I am ordering a mp10 and moved my fixture from 3inch from the water to 7inch above the water. I will keep you guys posted on what happens from now.

coralline growth has been slow. i used dry rock and dry sand so i think thats why its been alot slower. My rock has colored up alot though but still no coralline on the glass.

The light's moved up and now you have the flow. If your Ph is lower than you like try getting some decent surface water movement, not necessarily with the MP10 but one of the smaller power heads. If you don't see improvement then we'll need to take a closer look at your water. What bulbs are you using, forgot to ask?

It's probably a combination of lighting and flow. Exactly how far are the corals from the light source? Is that 17 inches from the corals or the top of the tank?

Also, there is nothing wrong with using API test kits. I've used them for over a year and while trying different brands....they came up as the most accurate.

You can check the expiration date by looking at the neck of the bottle. The last 4 digits are the month and year.

Hi Manwolk,

SPS and Lather can be keep together. see my aquarium Left side is full of SPS and Anemones, right side if full of different kind of Lather, and they are doing and growing well.

Do one thing, as you mentioned that coralline algae is not that strong as it as before. you need to add NaHCO3 (Sodium bicarbonate) in you aquarium daily basic. See Randy two part additive. Believe me this is the solution of your problem.

Just to rule something else out. I have leather coral about 6" away from my SPS. No problems at all. I have had them next to each other for over a year. = ) sometimes soft corals get the blame for SPS not doing well.

Update:
Since i moved my light up and added the mp10 whats left of my mili is looking great. The polyps are completely open like iv never seen before. Now the mili on one side is bleached out, will the rest of it most likely die or is there a chance of it recovering?
