Please help with an Elegance coral

I recently received an elegance coral from a friend b/c his Koran was feasting on it. It was about 6 inches when first purchased but is now completely sucked in and looks horrible. It was in his tank for about two weeks and has been in mine for two days now. It hasn't opened up much, but I also don't know anything about reviving a partially dead coral. Is there anything I can do to assist or is it probably too late?

where is it locate in ur tank and wat kind of light do u have. what is ur water para.?? if its on top near the light and too much flow, bring it down to the sand bed and away from the flow. after that be patience!!

I have it located in the bottom corner of the tank in the sand. My ph is 8.2 ammonia nitrate and nitrites are all 0. As for lighting I have 2x 250W metal halides, 4x 65W Compact Fluorescent. I assumed that it would appreciate light...is that not the case?

That depends. If it is an indo elegance, its more of a low light coral with a terrible survival rate in captive aquaria(generally less than 6 months). If its an aussie elegance, it will appreciate light and should thrive for you. There are allot of threads already in this forum on this subject that discuss it at length. Do a search and you will have some good reading material for awhile. ;)

Leave him be for now, dont touch or move him as this will cause more stress. it sounds like you have him in a good spot, make sure its getting decent flow, and hopefully he'll turn around for you...

GL!

Thanks guys...he's doing a little better. Still no tentacles anything however each day he's continuing to show more and more flesh. I'm feeding him a small mixture of brine and mysis shrimp along with Feeding Frenzy twice a week, and he seems to be doing better...I guess only time will tell
