I have a blue tang with the dorasl fin already eaten up the color i's fine, But he stoped eating 2 days ago, he hides under the rocks on the side.. I had a yeelow tang died 2 months ago (looked emaciated the day he died).

I have a 50 gal tank with LR cycled 2 years ago. Changing the water 20% every 4 weeks.
Water source RO; the kit was bought 3 mo ago and since then I have more brown alge than before. (I use to buy RO water from wallyworld). Also Corline grow slowed down a bit.
I ran out of test and I work all weekend so It's imposible to test the water, but I think it's fine.
I have a protein Skimmer - remora plus - cleaned 2 weeks ago.

I'm setting up my Carantine tank tonite.

Any Ideeas? Any more questions?

Thanks,

Sergiumd,

Not sure of your profession but for the most part a 'Doc' should know that ignoring maintenance is the path to problems.

You don't know water parameters but you think it's fine? That's not thinking. Do the tests now. The 'brown algae' you report is a good indication that there is something wrong with the water or the tank or both. A 2-year old tank should not, for any 'good' reason. be showing this symptom.

All fish should go through quarantine before introducing them into your display. This some guidance on that:

Once you've moved the fish to quarantine, inspect it closely for any abnormal condition. Provide an antibiotic in the water and watch the water conditions VERY closely. I'd use NITROFURAZONE (in the product, Furan-2, or in any reliable fish medication product).

The fish sounds like it might be a victim of poor water quality and/or a deficient diet.

If it starts eating again, use this for nutritional guidance:

Thanx for your reply

Thanx for your reply

I'm a "doc" not a mecanic:-))))

I was busy with my human patiens and disregard the aquarium.
But it sounds like I should rethink my priorities. ;-)

I did place the fish in the 10 gal tank, but maybe to late for him.

My wife found a test strip somewere and did test the tank and said everything was within range, but did not write the #'s.

The fish was in the tank for 18 months now; no new fish in the tank since oct 05.

I think the brown stuff it's mor diatoms. It maybe cycling again because of the different light nad too much water change: 50% 6 weeks ago.

The fish does not eat at all even in the 10 gal tank. I will look to see if I have any Macrobid samples to use. Do you know what dose I should use?

Thak you for your kindness,

sergiu
