I bought several nice frags tonight from another reefer, came home, temp acclimated them by floating the bags, dipped them in Revive for 7-8 min, rinsed them in rodi water & then placed them in the tank. That was approx an hr ago & I just looked in the tank at them before going to bed & I think some of them are rtn'ing!

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO??? Thanks in advance

No.I just figured it wouldn't be good to put them in my tank with that stuff still on them. It's not like an iodine dip. It's strictly a coral cleaner & it smells like pine-sol! I thought putting the dip into my tank, even if in small quantities would not be good. I've rinsed with rodi afterwards since I started using Revive. So do you think this is what caused this? Is there nothing I can do to stop it?

I used to always drip acclimate my corals but about a month or so ago, I was told that there is no need to acclimate corals. I checked with others & everyone agreed. So ever since I have just temp acclimated if necessary & dipped & done... I have been keeping my dkh at about 8-8.9 I use kalkwasser in my ato & dose sodium bicarbonate in my ato as well. I usually test my alk every night but didn't get to last night... Tonight it was 7.7 & 2 nights ago it was 8.8. I didn't realize it was so low until I already put the corals in & then tested.... If my alk was a couple points lower than the tank water they came from could it cause this? If so, why do people say there is no need to acclimate corals?

Bad idea :eek2: I doubt there is much you can do :headwally:

So what about it was bad? Just that there was no salt? Or ph/alk was so low? Is it true that corals don't need to be acclimated? Oh I hope they make it through the night! I'm devastated! I've been wanting these corals for months! :' (
Worried about these:
Red planet
Garf bonsai
Pink milli
Blue tipped green slimer
Tricolor valida

So far so good:
Forest fire digi
Red digi

Crossing my fingers & praying!!!

Ok well, in about 2 hrs they haven't gotten any worse so I'm hopeful. I'm adding a couple pics of the pink milli. It is the only one with bright white on the edge. I'm hoping that it's just from me scraping it when placing it in the hole on the rock or something & that I'm just seeing things that aren't really there with the others. I think it's a really good sign that they haven't gotten worse. uploadfromtaptalk1345463655257.jpg

I have heard of fresh water dipping soft corals but not sps. Hopefully they will all pull through for you. There is no issue with putting the coral in the tank after rinsing with Revive. You could rinse off the coral for a minute with another cup of aged saltwater if you want before adding though.

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking & why I ever thought to do freshwater rinse instead of sw in the first place! I thought I was done making newbie mistakes months ago! :what:
Anyway, I am very hopeful that they might all pull through. This morning they look exactly the same as when I first noticed any sign of something that looked concerning. Please say a little prayer for my little corals! :)

I don't acclimate SPS either (temp only). Also use Revive unless the frag is known to be sensitive (red dragon, some Hoeks, etc). Just skip the FW dip next time.

If alk swings are so bad for them, what if the alk is way off from the water they came from to the water in your tank... It doesn't hurt?
Do you rinse the corals in tank water before putting them in the tank or just take them out of the revive dip & drop them straight into the tank?

NEVER dip or rinse SPS corals in RO/DI water or Freshwater. After any type of medicated treatment, such as Revive or CoralRx, if you need to rinse them, use saltwater. RO/DI and Freshwater are two of the quickest ways to kill SPS corals.

+1 for what returnofsid said.

FWIW, I drip to acclimate to tank water, then dip in dip made with tank water, then rinse in another container with tank water, then into tank. I really should put into QT tank instead of display tank at that point.

^^^^^ Bingo! Not much left to say other than wait out your frags for recovery. Lower light for a week will help with algae problems on exposed or peeled coralites. :sad2: Good luck, glad a couple have already recovered

What Reff Bass said. I usually time new additions and do a water change, and use all the old water for acclimating, dipping, and rinsing. Hope they pull through for you :)

Thanks everyone. I feel like such an idiot! I blame sleep deprivation. Got one hr of sleep that night & not much the night before....
Anyway, I don't have a lot of hope for the red planet & blue tipped green slimer but the pink milli & garf bonsai look better & might pull through. The forest fire digi & red digi look great.
Still crossing my fingers!!!
