Please ID these snails

Can anyone ID these small snails in my QT tank?

They look like Nerite snails.

Looks like a cerith to me --I have 1 in my tank as well.
It will burrow in the sand( I have watched it di so)--does yours?

Definately a nerite.

Yep, it's in the nerite family, but isn't genus Nerita. It's probably a Neritina species, in the subfamily Neritinae for sure. They are more often found on grass in muddy areas than true nerites.

Thanks, everybody! LFS guy thought they were ceriths. I was busy looking at some pretty frogspawn and hammer corals as he harvested them for me. Another lesson learned. :rolleye1:

As long as they're not nasty in any way, I guess I'll keep them and go shopping for a couple of ceriths elsewhere.

Always second guess your LFS! These are ceriths:

Nerites are safe. The only thing is they leave eggs everywhere all over the glass. I'm not sure if any babies have been born in our tank. Our mandaring LOVES them!

Yup, that's pretty much what I was expecting. I think the LFS guy got confused by the pattern on the shell and forgot to pay attention to its shape.
