Got this blenny yesterday from a LFS believing that he is reef safe. Does anyone recognize the genus and species?

The consensus from sources I've checked indicates he is a Tribal.

Notable there's a very solid minority seeing him as Black Combtooth. I can only attribute that to the confusion using Google as his images come up under Tribal and Black Combtooth.

Very happy with him. Thanks. :)

tribal blenny. they love to munch sps. definitely not fucus, could be namiyei or unknown. i've seen tribal and fucus up close irl and they look nothing alike. there are hundreds of blenny species and i think people want to lump them all into the same common catagories.

Great shots of him, definately tribal.

Thanks! Just getting back into shooting again.

Regarding the Tribal's disposition, do you know of any reason that a tominiensis tang would think to be chasing him "off" the reef...keeping him from coming into the main area of the tank... almost as though he sees him as a threat to his food source? Their shapes and other characteristics are so different albeit their color has lots in common (grey/black).
