Please Identify Coral (with pictures)

Hi Everyone,

I attended the Reef Convention last Sunday in Rhode Island and had such a good time. With each admission ticket, you were given a piece of coral. My girlfriend and I both went and of course, we received two pieces. The only problem is, I'm new to reefing (I've always done FOWLR) and am having a hard time identifying these corals. I have two pictures below, and would appreciate anyone's help.

i would say the first one is a favia and the second one is definately some type of zoanthid (impossible to tell which ones while closed)

Thanks for the response! Is it possible to remove the coral off the plug without damaging the favia? It seems it's really glued on there. Same goes for the zoanthid. As said, I am new to corals and unsure if it's recommended removing the plug. It doesn't look as good attached to the plug.

Use a flat head screwdriver. If it hasn't grown onto the plug too much it should pop right off. You probably won't be able to do that with the zoanthids, but don't be afraid to break up the plug itself.

I'll give that a try. Is that typically what is done or do people usually have the coral grow around it? Also what is usually done with the "zoanthid?" I imagine since they are all separate parts it wouldn't be too good.

I have always left my zoanthids on plugs, and put the plugs into holes in the rocks. I'm afraid of damaging them.

The others that I want to glue directly to rocks, I used a rather dulled old paring knife from my kitchen and was able to pop them right off of the plugs. Just don't fling it across the carpet when doing so! (Yeah, I did that…. *shame*)
