please show me your t5 only sps tanks

I wonder what purpose the fans serve? Having T5s that high off the water, heat surely isn't an issue. It wouldn't even be an issue if the bulb was 2" off the water.

Looks like they are blowing over the surface of the water just to cool off the tank, even though the light might not heat up the water i am sure it gets warm.

He mentioned that he only kept the lights that high till he got the glass shield for his fixture....now he kepts the light lower.

but why put a shield on the lights since it will cut back on teh PAR values? plus it seems unnescesary to keep the lights that high since corals wont' bleach from T5s

Fans are pointed at the bulbs(you can see it canted upward) to cool the bulbs....this brings more PAR(about 20percent on a US tek unit) and also makes the bulbs last longer. Another thing is that he may want to raise his evap rate....more kalk! I doubt that though as on that sucker he has to have a CA Reactor.

I am running my unit right on top of the water with no shield, however, I have to clean my bulbs and reflector from water spray constantly ... a real PITA.

Oh, T5s can definitely bleach corals.

Ah, I was unaware of that. It makes me wonder why fans aren't built into the units?

LOL, I have no idea how you guys figure that I don't have t5's or all the other comments, Sorry I have not answer before to your comments sooner but I have not been active in this posting, too busy at work lately.
I actually I do have one of my 4 tanks running on t5's and have done some experiments with sps's in that tank, the results I got were not satisfactory IMO. Yes they live, but IMO unless you spend a ton and I mean a ton of money on prodivio & other Aminoacids additives which the "Europeans" clearly state they use in those tanks, the sps's just do mediocre at best.
I started with corals about 25 years ago and with SPS's about 15 years ago and have seen so many new trends come and go that I have learn to be cautious with what I add to the tank and were I put my money, I no longer read a thread and run to buy the new gadget or change my system because some one claims this or that.
I actually know the persons who started this thread personally and my recommendation are because of my experience and not out passion.
Make the add up on how many t5's bulbs and ballast you will need to have in a 220 gal tank keep in mind that this is probably a 32" High tank at best, it is a lot of money, no shimmering, hot as hell (for those of you that don't have t5's they are very hot) at least when over driven with ice cap ballast.
When you are done adding all this up start adding the Prodivio and all the other chemicals and your time dosing all this!
Me I will stick to MH, Thank you
