Plenums vs Berlin

Always found this to be one of the most ineteresting topics in aquaria and reefkeeping. Anyways just wondering idf there's still anybody out there running a plenum or has in the past.

Last i checked there was way too much variability to even consider if one is better than the other. It just seems easir IMO to use regular berlin and skimmer than a plenum.
I did have the oportunity to see a plenum at work and certainly was impressive-i wonder if our high flow systems can stand such design.
This is a great topic-even perhaps for a meeting and expert panel.
Any thoughts.

Doesn't GARF recommend them? I seem to recall there being a lot of info on their website.

Manny, I was attracted to the plenum after reading about Dr. Jaubert's system at the Monaco Aquarium and how simple it seemed however over the years I tried a piece of equipment here and there, saw the benefits and kept them ending with the Berlin method but even today I have a plenum in my DSB. Personally I had more success with the Berlin method and feel more control of the tank parameters.

I read an article about the Waikiki aquarium where they set up 2 tanks one with a plenum and one without. The sand in the plenum tank did not turn black underneath like the other. It may be online somewhere, I read it in a magazine.

Same here Lulio- I did read that Jauberts thing a while back. but failed miserably at it- easier said than done. But I'm pretty sure someone out ther still runs a plenum.

Anyways I do also think is easier how we do it now.

Tperk I'm familiar with the GARF info anf methods I just wanted to see if there's any local experince with it.
