Plumbing a SH tank inline

Hello, I was going to be adding a larger fuge to my 75g reef tank and was thinking I could accomodate a pair or two of sea horses if I make the fuge big enough. I read height of the tank is the key factor in sea horse setups, so what is about the minimum height you would want? 18?-24"? I was wanting to put the tank under my main tank so it can be gravity fed. I have the room for a 10g standard tank but a little taller. Would a 20g tall be ok?

Just to add a few thoughts for you..... seahorses will negatively impact the water quality in your reef including raising phosphates and nitrates. Something you do NOT want in a reef tank where nuisance algae can be disasterous. I never advocate plumbing a seahorse tank into or reef or keeping them in a fuge.

Aside from the water quality issues seahorses can/will cause, most reef tanks run in the 78F-82F range, which is not suitable long-term for seahorses.

18" is what I would shoot for minimum. ReefNut is correct, temperature is going to be an issue; 78 degrees is the top end for most species, be careful in your selection. Also, they are messy, and they can't take a lot of flow, which can be major issues if you're moving a lot of water in your tank.

Thnaks for the advice, I did not know they caused nutrient spikes, i figured if anything having the SH tank inline would help remove nute's because of the various macro's that would be in there and I also thought they ate live natural food. I will just run the tank as an inline fuge I guess

Look, i'm starting this, I believe is something like you are describing http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1623065

I had two h reidi in my fuge for about a year and they did fine and so did all my coral! Be careful who you listen to some people are full of [violation] know it alls! Just use a feeding station for the horses. The positive of adding the macro outways the negative of the horses. Go for it!

And there are those who have learned by experience that the majority cannot successfully keep seahorses in reef conditions for long term.
Just because some succeed is no reason to buck the odds when the seahorse lives are at stake.
I know that we're not supposed to steer people to other sites, but to keep you from possibly making a mistake, please search out seahorse specific sites and see what the REAL odds are of succeeding under what conditions. There are two sites with knowledgeable people, libraries and articles that can help you in your endevour.
