man theres a reason why mines not on here, all the plumbing I have seen soo far is way beyond my systems plumbing. You guys all have great filtration & plumbing. Nice job guys.

Now thats a big, fat lie....

:)

I'll support you warren and post mine as well.

Jimdogg....always liked your layout great job.
Who had that other one that was almost ready to go a couple of weeks ago.....I think they were in Davis, I was impressed by that one as well......big tall black chiller off to the side not plumbed yet, ring a bell?

As you can see, mine is very straight forward since it was my first and didn't know what I was doing at the time....the next tank will have all the loops and pumps with all the neato slickum stuff on it....I tend to try to go baby steps and make sure I need what I want, and want what I need first.

The ironic thing is, im the ME major and one would expect I have everything looking sweet and gagety like old gabe above me here.......if it works, it works still in school you know.....water in and water out thats all it does!!! As mentioned in the other its different now, this is from last march since then added a chiller, reactor, and a removable refugium under the sock. This tank is a test bed....the next will be one with all the bells and whistles.

Don't know what you are talking about man.. That looks really good.. Much better than mine :D ..

Thanks dots! Your set up is really clean too. I'd really like to see an updated shot. I really like your livestock as well. You have some very nice corals :)

This is actually my fourth system, so I pretty much built it the way I really wanted. I have room to upgrade and add a calcium reactor if I ever go back to reef.

I am setting up a 100g and it is not complete so please keep that in mind. Right now it is on a uncovered stand in my garage.

Here is the back of of the tank it has 2 overflows and 2 returns. I have plumbed the feed to the Iwaki that will run the Oceans Motions however without the unit I have not completed the returns. The 2 pipes at each end that are just hanging there are the return lines to the OM.

Here is the return pump, it will be replaced by a Pan World next week.

This is my own DIY skimmer.

Thanks,

Thanks for the kind words. Thats were I was comming from myself, I didn't know what I wanted or needed at the time.....next time well have her dialed in. By the time one get to their fourth, its old hat. Im only on number 2 and knew I was going to have to move it eventually.

I have a couple of projects I need to do when I get out of school.

1) Build another reef......im thinking cube say oh 200gal or so

2) Build another Hot Rod to replace the one I had to give up to finish school......this time a '56 Chevy, supercharged small block, 4 link and tremec 5 speed.

Here is a more fitting example of my "gear" when I go all out.

now thats my kind of plumbing.......

She was my baby......rebuilt her from the ground up. But had to give it up to finish school, figured that when I finished I would get another........and bet your butt I am!!! I am a bigger carnerd than a fishnerd, infact I only got into reefing cuz I live in apartment hell and don't have a garage or anything to work on anymore, and was going crazy........this hobby saved my sanity!!! Well whats left anyways.

And yeah John looks like your going all out on this one, I tried to ignore your pics.........man I need (want) a new tank too.......

Why do some of you guys have it plumbed with 4 returns? sorry if it's a dumb question. I'm new and still trying to learn.

Warren,

You can't dodge the inevitable :). Stumbled into this while browsing the General Discussion. Nice looking sump. I like the removal baffles, good idea.

I would say go with a NEW STYLE Euro Reef RS80 or a H&S A150.

heres a pic of my H&SA200-1260.. these are great skimmers, along with the ERs. I also think that the AQUA C is a great piece as wel. I have tried, ETSS as my very first skimmer, then AQUA C, MTC ProCal, Euro Reef both old and new style and then H&S. I dont think you can compare the H&S/ER to the AquaC/MTC/ETSS. All totally different styles. Its what best works for your tank. They all work differently and all have there advantages and disadvantages. For convinience, I stuck with the needlewheels.
Heres my H&S.

Jon,

Very nice setup. Are you going to put some panels on the stand or will it be an inwall system? That stand you built looks very sturdy, how tall is it?

Gabe

Gabe,

I have a friend who is a great woodworker, and he is going help me cover the stand and build the canopy. The stand is 40 inches tall. I have had a lot of comments about the height, but that is what I wanted it to be. I want to be able to stand in front of the tank and see everything without bending or squatting.

Thanks,

John

Tank looks ten times better when it is at eye level. Good move on the stand and it also allows more room for equipment at the bottom.

Yeah!!!!!! 40" Can't go wrong there!!!

Thats what I built mine to. Simply awsome. Will never run an aquarium differently.

I built mine outta 4x6's and 2x6's with a couple of 4x4's. You could park a Caddy on this sucker ;)
