here is my problem
these black circles are about 2 inches wide and the hole cut for the tank within those black holes are 1.5 inches wide

as I am plumbing, I ran into this problem as I am using 1.5 inch PVC for the CL return

how do I plumb through these holes?

The hole is sized to accept a standard 1" bulkhead fitting; no where near large enough for 1-1/2" plumbing.

I recommend:
1) purchasing and installing a 1" standard/economy slip x slip bulkhead fitting (with white retainer nut/not black)
2) glue a 1-1/2" slip to 1-1/4" threaded PVC bushing inside the plumbing fitting you wish to attach
3) Thread the newly created PVC part to the "outside" threads of the bulkhead you just installed in step #1, remembering to use teflon tape of course

The reduction to 1-1/4" in this case is limited to a very small area, so it will have no noticeable affect to water flow or performance. This is a MUCH more desireable solution than trying to drill your glass tank for larger holes to accomodate 1-1/2" plumbing.

The bulkheads with the white nut are Hydro-Air units very good. Use a multi-purpose cement for PVC, ABS, ect. The glue won't be to "hot" for the ABS. Better seal in the long run. I know.

Reefmeister are u president now? Good for you. Marc step down? I havent had time to come to the meetings since I opened my shop.

I will be using a dart for the CL, how much will this effect the dart? as it was my understanding that they don't like any back pressure.

and will the bulkheads fit with the black rings attached to the tank? or should I try and cut those off

Yes, this Friday will officially be Marc's last meeting as president (he is stepping down). The SCMAS Steering Committee has nominated me to take on the responsibility of President, so I intend to give it my best shot and provide outstanding leadership for the organization.

I am assuming this is on the "output/return" portion of the closed loop? then it should be fine. Like I said, the "bottleneck" reduction to 1-1/4" is completely insignificant due to the small area that's affected

The bulkhead has over 2" of thread (length) available, so you should be able to leave the black ring in place if it is an integral part of the tank....though I'm not for certain what its function is.

Redrill the holes..... I had to do that on my tank. When my tank was originally made the person cut 1" holes in the 4 corners of the tank. I wanted holes large enough for 1" pipe, not 1" holes.... Big problem. I initially plumbed everything with 3/4" pipe because that's all that would fit through the drilled holes. After finally getting sick of it I decided to redrill the holes... With a fully stocked 280 gallon tank to boot!..

Talk about easy. All I did was cut a wood template exactly same size of my diamond hole saw. I clamped the wood template to my euro-bracing got some water to keep the glass wet and off a drillin' i went! No issues, drilled 4 holes in 1/2" glass in under 2 hours. Worked great. Now I can have the 1.5" returns that I wanted.

what is the difference btwn a bulkhead with a white retainer nut and a black retainer nut?

actually, I don't believe there is much space in the width of the glass of the eurobracing.

I was looking at aquatico about to order my overflow bulkheads (ouch 60 a piece)
and wanted to order the bulkheads for the closed loop, but they dont have white ones and I just want to make sure I dont purchase the wrong parts

how big of a bulk head can you fit in the hole? 1" 1.25" 1.5" if i remember there was a black pipe in the glass did you remove it ?

The black nut variety have off-size threads where you cannot thread anything to it except the retainer ring that comes with it.
The white nut types have standard pipe threads like PVC

I usually just go to the local fish store...they almost always have bulkheads of this type. If not, here is one link:

http://www.customaquatic.com/customaquatic/itemdetail.asp?itemid=PF-HR10-2107BLK

its actually a slip x thread, but that is fine...it'll work just the same. (their slip x slip had the black nut)

Order from D & T Aquarium Supplies better place. And they are local.
Tom is the owner very cool guy to work with and nice.
JMO
I will be ordering form them again this week.

Do they have a website???
I'm always looking for a good local plumbing store that has a large selection and near-wholesale prices. Only online stores fit that bill thus far and are all out of state

They have some awesome prices
You say they are local; where are they at?
I can't find any reference on their website

Do they have a "will call" or walkup service?
