if your overflow drains less gph than your skimmer throughput rating, will there be any problems caused by the skimmer reskimming the same water if the skimmer output is directed back to the skimmer chamber?

My euro-reef cs6-2 output is in the same area of the skimmer input. My sump pump is the Velocity t3 (724 gph @4') and the skimmer pump is a Sedra 5000 (gph? i have no idea... i tried to search it and find info... with no luck).

The return water will be cleaner, but it will be quickly diluted it your tank. What I think it will do is that you effectively change the rating of your skimmer to that of your overflow.

You CANNOT overskim. The fact that the skimmer is recirculating the same water is good. It will give it every opportunity to pull as much as it can.

The absolute best way to skim is to dump the overflows directly into the skimmer. This doesn't give proteins a chance to float to the surface of the sump and bypass the skimmer.

i thought that this wouldnt be a problem, but figured that i would pass it by some folks
before i make it my final plan. so the combination of the output from the skimmer and the flow from the overflow will fill the skimmer chamber and overflow through the baffles into the refugium, and i will have some recirculation through the skimmer itself. sounds good to me.

By the way I believe the sedra 5000 has 500gph.
