Plumbing reactor back into return circuit?

Hello all,

I'm planning my reactor plumbing and would like to have both the supply and discharge run to the return line (see attachment). Does anyone have any experience to share about either configuration?

Note: Return pump (Taam Rio 3100) is in a back chamber of an AIO and passes through a chiller in the stand before being discharged into the display portion of the tank. Reactor is a single BRS deluxe.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Regards,

Robert

You can get away with #2 but depending on the setup you would probably need valves in front of the chiller as well to restrict it a bit to get water to flow through the reactor. For #1 to work you would also need a valve between the in and out of the reactor to get water to flow through it.

Big problem here is you cannot flush the reactor or determine how much flow is going through it. This is a big reason why almost everyone drains the reactor back into the sump. IME I would suggest setting it up a different way.

Thank you for the reply. I hadn't even considered flushing.. I'll plan on running the reactor discharge separately back up to the tank.

Cheers!

Robert
