would silicone work? i want to be able to take it apart if i dont want to use it later.

I have my mag with a 1/2" screw adapter and pvc slipped over the outside. No glue, no silicone. I don't notice any water leaking out and even if there was a little, it is underwater in my sump, so no big deal. If I want to take it out to clean it. I just slide my egg-crate stand out and pull it down. Then it is free.

Threads are your best bet for easy removal, especially those that come with a union.

Teflon tape the threads.
