I have been reading the various theard on various website on this topic. I know there are some tests going on right now with antibotics. I know that some peopel have used iodine and fresh water dips with mixed sucess. However, it seems that some people have gotten rid of it for good without the use of antibotics. I am wondering about serial FWD myself.

Who are you and what did you do? Please educate the rest of us.

Thanks,
Connie

I have been reading at it seems that some people have cured with iodine drips Someone else seemed to have cured it with serial fresh water dips. Someone else cured it with one FWD. I would like to hear from those people. I hate the idea of fagyl in the tank, but I am afriad that might be the only solution. I just wnat to see if there is anything else.

Anyone else?

i think that ur reading the same threads that i have been following, and the only person out of those people that said that they cured it ,did it by mistake when they went out of town and had a salinity drop, and i think that others have tried to repeat it but cant, i think that u might be able to get ride of it with fwd, but the clam will have to be placed into another tank after the treatment that has never had an infected clam in it,but it may take multiple treatments and each time a sterile tank=a ton of stress an the clam,a few QT tanks,MH's etc....IMO the people working on this are the Best in the business, and the treatment that they are suggesting is the one that i am using

I cured it on 4 clams with no losses.

Freshwater dips (30min in RO/DI with no buffer) on 3 of the 4 - even though all 4 showed symptoms because one of them I liked to much to risk. All 3 were cured temperarily and none were killed. But it came back on one of them after about 3 weeks. So then I treated the two that were still showing symptoms.(one for the first time the other for the second time) It never came back.

When doing the FWD, does anyone run a powerhead or have water movement directly on the clams? Just wondering if directing a flow towards them will increase the chances of curing it.

Thanks for the reeffrontier article. I read it. I think t is the best. I thought of the powerhead however, I was afriad that would make the clams close. WHen I dipped them yesterday. I look my turkey baster and I gentle squirted freshwater into their shells to try and get the areas that were closed. My clams look great today. Much better than the first time I dipped them. I am thinking of trying FWD twice a week to see if I can get the little bugs before they can reproduce. I am also going to feed them twice a week. My clams are very healthy so we will see.

Its about our clams pinching, PMD=pinched mantle disease. Barry at clams direct had some sickly clams analyized at a marine lab and they found a protazoan infection in the clams that is treatable with metroanzole something....its listed in the above reef frontiers link....its an antibiotic....I just purchased some from pet solutions to treat my clams....Was pretty cool that Barry took the inicitive and found what is causing the pinching...My hat is off to barry....
