They're impossible to take pics of on rocks and such, and I think a bunch of the larvae met Mr. Beckett while I was gone...

Still, I have about 50 that I see so far.

What kind of flow do you have the main colony in? Porcillapora are notorious for polyp bailout, not spawning. Polyp bailout can be caused by stress or other factors. I've seen this before and it can turn into a problem. It starts out as a few cute polyps, then you realize they are colonizing everything.

So sad

I had a huge problem with poccis spawn in my last tank. The small news frags covered all my rocks, burning all my corals when the frags grow

Kill them all while they are small

Best Regards

thats pretty cool
Thanks!

Thats awesome. How did you get it to spawn? Do you have a pic of the mother?
Nothing, lunar phase monthly. Yes, will post tomorrow

20 long, k2 and 2 small prop pumps, skimmer pump is 19GPM
It was for sure sexual reproduction, although it is odd that some of the colony is bleaching. Yes bleaching, with white polyps. Could this be new polyps or a lighting problem?

Awh sad day man! Should I worry in a tank full of monti's?
I know my hydno's will be fine :blown:

Agree. What a PITA. :uzi:

Whether it's the lighting or not, the coral sounds stressed which caused the polyp bailout. Do you have any pics of the tank? What type of setup are you running? Sump? HOB filter?

I thought it was really great at first, now it's making me nervous. If the mini colonies start to produce colonies, it's gonna snowball. I've already had to kill some that were growing too close to my favorite acros. I keep a big syringe full of kalk paste, that does the trick.

I have some growing on my glass and overflow, even on one unlucky snail.

That said, it's pretty slow-growing, it's not aiptasia or hydroids. The can get into very inaccessible parts of the rockwork though...

I couldn't agree more. I was THRILLED when my Pocis spawned then I started to have colonies ALL over the tank. They started to kill everything they touched as they grew and then THOSE babys spawned. It was worse than any aptasia bloom, i've ever seen.

I know of folks who have had to completely break down their tank to get on top of it. I treated them like aptaisa and eventually I wiped out almost all of them (they keep popping up).

Sorry to get on the 'bummer train' but kill them now!

I don't think it was a ball out, the colony did not look like pics of one preparing to do that, and I think its odd that the colony and all the frags would ball out at once and other SPS wouldn't look so good.

The last stressor I had was 3 weeks before the spawn. My temp hit 93. Everything was good though, and the tank is now 76-77 degrees all the time with no heaters to worry about.
No sump, just a false overflow for the skimmer, HOB fuge (took it off as my pH is high all day) and I run carbon occasionally in a reactor. Ill look for pics.

Was talking to the local club today and it was brought up that I run a high pH.
Its always high in the 8 range, close to 9.
I run lights at night, and sunlight in the room (not at the tank) cause the tank to evap during the day more, topped off with kalk. So I don't get daily swings at least

It's not ballout, it's bailout, just incase you want to go search it and read how prevelent it is among porcillipora. Bailout is not a spawn which is associated with the release of gametes. Polyp bailout is a form of asexual reproduction.

Yes I've read that.
They can reproduce many ways.
Sorry I said ball instead of bail.

Its not a bailout though. It was a spawn where it released brooded planulae. Thats the only form of reproduction that they do monthly. I doubt the polyps bail out every month.
Pocillopora is a hermaphroditic brooder, and this type of spawn is still considered sexual.

I did my research.
