pocillopora issues

Hi all..

Do pocillopora require more nutrients in the water to do well?

In my sps tank...The older it gets the more nutrient free it gets, and the bigger my acros get the more food they take out of the water column...

My big beautiful SPS are doing unbelievably well...

But the poci's which used to grow like a weed, are kindof fading, do they need more nutrients than acropora?

It is interesting for they were thriving when my water was dirtier...

I just increased the lighting and flow over my fuge/frag tank to t5's so my algae in there grows like crazy sucking all nutrients from the tank...

I am not really that concerned because the pocis take up valuable real estate that I can grow more colorful corals in anyway....

Opinions?

thanks

Could it be your acros are blocking water flow the pociliporas were getting before?

They are generally hardy corals and can take a beating. I had a piece that did that and fragged it a few times to open up the inner parts and it started growing again like crazy

They don't mind dirt; my skimmer broke down for a month and they didn't skip a beat. I feed phyto and pods, and I don't know if that's anything they like, but they're pretty healthy.

I think the problem might be not enough dirt...

Once I upped the lights on the fuge/frag tank the nutrients are really getting sucked out of the tank, I think some of my euphyllia are doing really poorly...

But I am turning the skimmers off during the day now.

Do some research on potassium supplement (K balance). Seems the poci's shows signs first when it is low. Ya might want to wander over to the Zeo Boards to find out more. HTH
