Waiting ~1 month for Bulk Reef Supply to have their BioPellet reactor in stock (which is just a modified version of their GAC/GFO reactor)... and it was pushed back from 4/1 to 4/30.
Was going to use Pets Warehouse to order them for me so I can avoid some shipping... as well as the Eheim Jager heaters - which also had to be ordered because no one seems to carry them instock for some reason. (As a side note - PetsWarehouse orders BRS stuff, and charges same price BRS does not a bad deal, and quick shipping to the store)
ARGH!!!
My beautiful and immaculate white marco rocks are being covered in DOO-DOO Brown diatoms!!! :uzi:
Anyway... I think I'll just go with the TLF Phosban reactor and just mod it with the 2 craft store screens I got from Noel.
Going to take a hopefully quick ride out to Pets Warehouse or Tropical Island Aquarium (because they seem to be the only "competent" reefing stores sorta near by)...unless anyone can recommend another store either in LI or Queens? That might carry what I need.
Need to pick up 2 smaller heaters as well so I can swap out the enormous 250w 17" Eheim Jager I have sitting in the DT (It won't fit into the sump without being exposed to air partially
) I was thinking about getting 2 Eheims.... but they're about $30 each... don't know if it really is worth it.
(At least the girlfriend will be able to use the first Eheim I bought in her new 55g Fahaka Puffer tank
)
I really would like a controller... but I'm a poor college student.
Only one that seems to be sorta in range is the Reef Keeper Lite or the AquaController Jr. but haven't read much about the latter.
The reason for the controller is so I can just skimp out on some cheaper heaters, and just let the controller do the temperature controlling. lmao.
I don't know... what do you guys think?
Controller is not a necessity.. but it is nice to have. Plus it has timers and other goodies....
My coralife digital timer crapped out on me a second time (just the timer functionality) (this is the replacement they sent - at least they let me keep the original for free so now I have 2 spare powerstrips/surge protectors)
Any particular brand of heaters any of you guys recommend that could be considered on the cheaper side?
I just don't want to end up buying equipment that will bring me problems... err... rather problems that will occur sooner than later.
I know - heaters should probably be replaced about once every year, they're all pretty unreliable. But I read a few places on how reliable the Eheims are and the consistency of the thermostat.
Tips & advice welcomed!
