Pods

I need to buy pods locally or somewhere good online. Does anyone know where in the city of chicago or online I can buy them. I think my mandarin has litterally eaten most of them b/c he is starting to get skinny and I don't see them running around like i used to at night.

Thanks,

I've heard about a few people here who have gotten their mandarins to eat Rod's Food. You should give it a try, definately alot cheaper and less stressful than trying to acquire/cultivate copepods.

Unfortunately the only place I know of, that you can get pods is OceanPods online. But I wouldn't go through them b/c someone here (can't remember who) had a pretty bad experience with that company. Hopefully that person will see this thread and chime in :)

Oh yeah, another thing that you can do to increase the pod population in your tank is to stack a couple of piles of small LR and put those green strawberry baskets over them. That way the pods have a safe haven from the mandarin b/c the mandarin can't get at them there.

I have had nothing but the best experience from oceanpods, and if you've had a bad one. Simply e-mail the owner. I think she cares about her product and if you've had a bad experience, would make it right.

The easiest way to keep pods for your little guy is to have a sump/refuge. If you have that with alot of macro and rocks. You can simply start a culture with a bottle of pods. And then feed the fuge twice a week with phytoplankton and finely ground flake. You'd have so many you could take some macro and shake it into your main tank every once in awhile, and put it back in your sump. .

Thanks for all the help guys. I do have a fuge full of macro but for some reason I am not seeing the pods like a used to. I really think the mandarin has start to decrease the population.

Thanks for the help.

i also bought that bottle.. next to nothing in it.. i just fig lesson learned..
i used to buy from inland.. great product... too bad they are gone..

Interesting. I bought a bottle of those pods a while back from the pod lady w a group order and not a happy camper either.

I just got a bag of 'em from a gal at my pufferforum--it was packed w/all sizes & shapes of pods. I PMed her about sending out to other folks.

Feed phyto to your tank after you put the pods in and go on feeding it: it will help them sustain their population. Since I started doing it, I'm getting the population back at a near-sustainable level with a mandarin in the tank.

Read this before going to Oceanpods

You can't SEE the pods when you first get them. Sounds like the guy was expecting to litterally "SEE" 1000 pods. And even then when he fed the bottle he saw a great increase in large (fully adult) pods. You get TONS of babies in those bottles. And that's exactly what you need to start a pod population. When I put my bottle in, the next day I saw a drastic increase in my pod population. Order from Premium Aquatics then if Adeleide isn't in a good mood , they have incredible customer service, if you are not satisfied.

There are two more people who posted right after me that also say they were not happy. What are you going to say now, "don't go by just what 3 people experienced?". You also ignored the other people in the thread I listed.
You are really doing fellow reefers a diservice by telling them to ignore overwhelming posts that show bad experiences with this vendor.

BTW telling people they can't see the pods when they "first get them" sounds like a very familiar untrue statement. This alone should make people wary of what your saying.
