Hey MJAnderson... You had suggested I wait until my lights cycle off and hold a flashlight up to my tank to see if I have copapods. I saw dozens of pods swim right into the light! There were hundreds of them swimming all over the water column. Very cool thing to see. I wondered if It would have been useful to buy a bottle of pods at the sale. So... I did an experiment. I siphoned out a gallon of water from the top of my substrate into a clear container, brought it into a dark room, switched on my flashlight, and you guessed it... there were quite a few in the bottle of light yellow color saltwater. Makes me wonder... Does this mean I can sell my siphoned out water/pods from my tank for 20 bucks a pop bottle? Hmm. I'd give it away since I dump it down the toilet every Saturday morning. Any takers? Thanks for the suggestion Mike.

Thanks to everyone who bought stuff from me at the sale. I ended up selling all 3 tanks (the third tank sold the next day from a fella I met here on Reef Central.) See everyone again at the November DIY meeting.

Sadly I killed all mine by dosing kalk directly into my sump daily. I think the PH swing in the small tank did them in. The boost in pods will hopefully kickstart my population back...

pods for sale isn't the same thing as pods in siphoned water.

To give an analogy it would be like you testing your water and finding that it has calcium in it. That should be obvious but it doesn't mean you have the proper levels or never need to do water changes to replenish lost calcium.
The bottles of pods that were for sale are purely copepods in saltwater nothing else. They are very condensed compared to what you would find in a normal tank's water. If you have a mandarin or six-line wrasse you will need lots of live rock to sustain the food source for them (pods) but if you supplement the rock with new pods they will have a feast instead of just surviving.

Thanks for the comments. I do have a six line wrasse. His belly is very full. I think I'll get a Mandarine sometime soon. I used to kill Mandarines because I had a fish only tank and bleached my corals. I think I feel good about getting one now. I wonder how fast a six line wrasse, scooter blenny, and a Mandarine will depleat my live pods in my 125? I have 140 pounds of live rock with plenty of biodiversity. Anyone have this combo of fish?
