Pods!!!

anyone in springs area needing to reseed a refugium with copepods or increase mandarin snack supply let me know, I just had to split my harpacticoid cultures as the little buggers decided to explode in population and I'm running out of shelf space. Give me a bit of time and I'd be happy to suck a few hundred up and slap em in a bottle for ya (why buy when theres a local crazy guy).

sweet sweet, I'll suck a few thousand out on my next culture split! Probably happen within the next two days the way these guys are multiplying! I'll fire off PM's when I get em separated.

Count me in if there's enough. Also, can you give a little informational overview of your process for culturing them. I am very interested. I have been contemplating trying my hand at phyto, but why not just culture what I really want; more pods!!!
:)

he he even if theres not enough on this run there will always be more, these little guys explode in population every few days... I've gotta have the fattest mandarin around! Once I get some time I'll post my little blurb on how I'm culturing. I sorta went out on my own after reading a million different ways to do it and adjusted till it worked so what works for me might not yield the same results for everyone but hey, it's working!

I think we may have found our speaker for Cliffs meeting? Can you do an informal presentation on how you do this?
I know being your first meeting that's asking a lot, but it's a topic we all want to know more about!

it's sad really I'm a total wirenut and packet junkie (pure IT guy) and sooo far away from development. As I sit here using iWeb (eh it came with the mac) to put a pod culturing site together I realize that not only do I know about as much about development as I do heart surgery... but I'd rather try heart surgery.

Seriously though I'm workin on the pages now as I post this, I'll try and get pictures of my cultures up this week to help. (maybe I'll snap em on my next split and when I harvest for everyone). And of course I realize that I ramble on more than anybody I know...

Apologies in advance guys! I'll post the link when I get the pages up

I'll stand in line for some of those pod's. I don't have the refugium running yet but will need to stock it with the little buggers when I do.

he he, nobody wants to hear a hack like me talk about how he stumbled into pod production Maybe in a few months once I get everything honed in, I'm still in the experiment stage.

That's great i can't believe you created that website that fast! and with all the pics, great job.
I'm gonna go read through it all now.

N/P on waiting to do a presentation.
Are you coming to the next meeting? It's July 21st I believe, usually at 1 p.m.

Ok, I caved under pressure - the July meeting info is now up :) Will become a sticky as soon as the mods have a chance to tend to it. WOW they work fast! Never mind, its already a sticky! Thanks Mods!

Awesome Reet, I put it in my calendar so I will be there! I promise guys I'll bring pods.....

I actually cleaned the garage today so I would have room for more cultures.... scary! I've also started my first attempt at a phyto culture (now logged on the culture site) to see what happens. these little things are amazing, through my research I've found out that they're studying how to use them to tackle mosquito problems as they find mosquito larvae and eggs to be a delicacy!

At least I dont have to worry about squito's in my tank since it's in the garage eh.....

now if I could just find a good way to catch em

startin to feel like a drug dealer here, I'm ready to start siphoning off these guys so I went ahead and sent the first few messages, this batch will be split up between Lfduty, bluemandj and Green Wrasse. All others dont worry, I'm just going down the list first come first serve like. I will also be bringing several jugs to the meeting (hopefully nobody mistakes it for tea!)

I've begun some serious research on these guys (well as serious as my garage and budget will let me be) and am now starting to test several different culture methods. The site now has daily information (some times twice daily) on progress for those who are interested. Feel free to shoot me feedback on ideas or thoughts on what I am doing at any time, its always appreciated!

And if anyone comes across strange watertight containers that may look fun, let me know..

Bump for blog update request. I haven't seen any updates in the phyto blog. Is it still bubbling? Did it crash? Did you get DT's to stay alive as the starter culture? Thanks for any new info.
