Poidog's 70g Tech Tank Build

Thanks. I forgot to add that the Giesemann is in stock at the distributer that is located in Canada. It should take about 2 weeks to be drop shipped to me. My bulb selection is

- Giesemann Pure Antinic
- Giesemann Antinic Plus
250w MH Phoenix DE
- KZ Fiji Purple
- Giesemann Pure Antinic

Any reason in particular you are choosing those bulbs over the ATI?

Your going to like that skimmer I have the Sro-1000 internal essentially the same but my pump sits beside the cone. Pulls some nice junk out.

Look what the UPS fairy left me today!

The Giesemann came in early and is a beautiful light fixture. They could have packed it better though. The ballast was rubbing up against the fixture as it wasn't wrapped in anything, just in packing peanuts. It rubbed a bit off the paint of an edge, but nothing major or noticeable unless I point it out. Bulbs came with it unscathed. The quality and feel of the light is top notch. I'll see how it goes when I plug it in and test it tomorrow.

I also got 50lbs of the 100lbs I ordered of BRS fiji dry rock (the other box was delayed). Very nice rock and good sizes. So far very impressed.

I also got the BSR carbon reactor along with some other misc supplies and plumbing.

I am going to finish plumbing the tank, leak test it, and hang the light. I can't aquascape and fill it up with salt water this weekend since all the rock didn't come in... damn UPS.

Alright, I NEED YOUR HELP/SUGGESTIONS on where to place the tank in the house. I want to get this figured out and done on Saturday.

Option 1:
Place the tank in the living room, where the nano currently is. Below are photos showing the layout of the living room. TV is mounted on the wall opposite the tank (on the left). I taped out the foot print, and on the wall taped the hight of the tank and then above that were the light would hang.
Pros: Makes a beautiful main focus of the room, easily viewable all the time.
Cons: possible noise from tank where TV watching, entertaining, etc. Possible light bleed while sitting on the furniture and looking up, can't watch TV in a dark room while light is on. Will be tight in the corner w/ the furniture.

Option 2:
Leave it where it currently is in the sunroom, just off the living room. There is furniture in there to view the tank, but will not be in the primary sitting room.
Pros: isolate the noise in one room, can make a very pretty/relaxing reading/chill room.
Cons: not in the primary living room, so you can't glance over at it and watching it when company is over, sitting talking, etc Having to find something to fill in the space when the nano is taken down (like a tree or something)

Hmmm. My suggestion would be to think about where you would prefer to put it. Then, ask your wife/gf and forget about what you prefer :D

Ha! Well the husband doesn't care where it goes. He just goes with the flow and there to hold the tools for me.

This looks like it's going to be a really nice build. With all the nice toys going into this project, I can't wait to see what you put inside the tank.

As for location, I say put the tank next to the chaise lounger. That's one of my favorite chairs and I imagine that it'll be perfect spot to relax (right in front of the tank).

I say number 1.. It will be a nice main FOCUS, but it will bother your husband when watching his favorite show or game with the lights.. LOL!!

You will be amazed with new equipment coming out these days are real quiet. Don't know if you just want to do a test run with all equipment using FW to see if the level of noise is to much when watching TV.. (Have your husband remove all the water when done as your back is hurting.. HINT :lolspin::lolspin:) No more quiet nights watching TV if the tank is loud.. So keep that in mind

E- Is that the only spot in the dinning room area you can put it? Or is that the dinning area? Anyhow I would leave it if thats spot, if there aren't any other spots to locate it. I wouldn't put it in the living room you would definitely get a glare on your TV from the MH/T5 combo. Just an FYI... That gets annoying ...

I say put it in living room.It will be a focus point.I have mine in living room, the only noise that I hear is from Vortech pumps, but you get used to it.

I would also put it in the living room. You can work out the lighting schedule and noise should not be an issue.

Thanks all
Tank - it's currently I. The sun room, not dinning. No room in dinning room.

We held the giesemann at the hanging spot, if it were to go in the living room and it produced no glare or light spill on the TV. They did a really good job designing the light. I beliveve the current nano will be loader than the new tank as it has four loud noisy fans when the lights kick on and a magnetic ballest. The giesemann is completely silent. The only noises that concern me is the possible water/sump noise and the skimmer.

I'm still so confused an where to put it! Haha you guys are saying living room, folks ar CR are saying sunroom.

Well if your getting no glare from the TV from the lights then Livin room it is- I like to enjoy the tank while watching TV and looking over and seeng my tanks beauty... :)

Okay, I think we came up a compromise. We're going to move the black leather sofa in the sun room (we've been meaning to get rid of it anyway), and put the tank up against that wall. That way it can be out of the living room, but still viewable from it. Then we're going to get two chairs and put them across from the tank and make it a reading/chill room.

How does that sound?

Sounds like a plan! Good seeing you today. I'll just come up your way next week sometime to pick up my stuff and bring you that rock.
