Poiseidon has blessed me. (with pics)

Thank you, thank you. I'm awfully proud of those little guys, well, except for Joe, he's the trouble maker in the group.

Due to lack of time to post pics while at work, I'd like to invite everybody to view my photo gallery here on reefcentral. I've added the rest of my photo's along with some nice shots of my freshwater tank. Please enjoy and let me know what ya'll think.

Just for the fun of it, heres one the day before my Bangaii released his babies. Now I have 12 babies, but I know there were more crammed in his mouth. simply amazing.

And i know this ones a bit fuzzy, but this is same fish, after baby release. It's clear enough to tell the difference.

Hey Adam, I might want some of those babies when they are older. How long do they take to grow out and can you tell the gender?

I've read that it'll take about 5 - 6 months before there ready for the market. As for gender, the only ways i've seen to tell are:
1) When a male holds a clutch - it's a male =o)
2) Take a known male and let him sort through the rest, he'll fight with other males, and in all likelyhood, not attack the females.

I'm going route number 2 once their old enough. Once my male released his babies, it became very difficult to tell a difference. I know which is him cause the male in my tank has a messed up dorsal fin (stung by frogspawn is my guess, he was hiding their when i noticed it) But other than that, their both identical again.
Can you appreciate how lucky I was to get a male/female pair, let alone a compatible pair. Whoo-Hoo! oh, excuse me, I meant "woot!".

Whoo-Hoo indeed! Or Woot!!! Or whatever. :)

Save me a pair or so of the babies for 5-6 months down the road....

Will do, I've got half of them spoken for, assuming that many of them make it. These are my first marine fish, so I'm prepared for the worst and hoping for the best. I'll definatly keep ya updated.

I lost my first two babies last night, cause of death was nothing short of an accident, one got squished in the net while scooping them up, he tried to make a last second dart around the net. :(
The other I'm going to say was already dead but in all honesty I don't know, I didn't see him in the breeding net, so I emptied the net, moved all the babies to a holding bin, went to clean the net and when I was done I saw this little baby squished on my finger. It was the saddest thing in the world. And if that doesn't top all, I lost my male purple moscow guppy that I just got, There was a horrid nitrite spike in the tank and he didn't handle it well. But not all hope is lost, I have the two femal guppies, and both seem to be pregnant, hopefully I'll have more soon. And the remaining 10 Baby Bangaii's are all still hangin' in there and eating well. Being my first marine babies ever, I expected some losses, but not because of me, Let this be a lesson to all who want to breed fish, there little bitty, gotta keep you're eyes wide open for em.

FWIW, the parent Bangaii's have stopped there mating dancing, or at least I havn't seen em at it in a few days, both are eating extremely well, lot's and lot's of live foods in hopes of getting another litter going soon. Stay tuned for more info...

I had planned on getting them an actual urchin to stay in, but since I havn't got a separate grow out tank setup yet I didn't want to stick an urchin in the breeding net with em. right now, they have a small chunk of cheato I threw in the breeding net, it helps keep the current less turbulant for them and gives them a place to hide from the bright lighting. Once I obtain another 20L and a 20H I plan to put together a nice little 40g breeding center for my bangaii's and that'll get a couple urchins in it as well. So far the cheato has been working great, they stay huddles next to it, until feeding time, these guys are smart as hell, already figured out that when the little pipette (came with a test kit) goes in the water, they all come runnin' for it and grab up all the brine shrimp they can catch.

Chris - These little guys will need to get about 5 month older before there ready for homes. I have at least 6 of them spoken for, but I'll keep ya in mind, that'll put me at 8 of them spoken for and 2 more left. Since I don't know how many will make it to that age, I can't promise anything, but if they do, You'll be on my list of people wanting some. And FWIW, I do plan to keep breeding my bangaii's as often as they will allow.

SWEET!, that makes me feel a little better now, I have a home for all 10 babies, when they grow up. If for some reason these guys perish as well, I'll keep you guys in priority with the next batch.
I do have some new pics as well, I'll try to get those posted soon.
Nothing overly special, but they let ya see how much bigger these guys have gotten.

Ya know, I was talking with Jess about that very thing Paul. These guys are so easy to breed they may as well be on a Donor list. Plus the fact that Daddy Bangaii will take care of the newly hatched fish until there week old free-swimming , it would make a nice introduction to breeding for some people.
