Poll: What lights do you use?

I was running leds on my 120 but I went back to a 2 250w mh and 4 54w T-5s unit... so far I love it I will post pics later

I run the t-5s most the day 2 blues kick on for a few hours then the other 2 t5s join in for a few hours and then my halides kick on for just an hour and then back to all 4 t5s and then just the two blues and then just a reef brite and then just a moonlight

Both tanks are 120 gal.

Frag tank 8x54 ati t5 fixture
Display tank single 250w 20 radium MH with white and blue cree led suppliment

DIY rapid led kit for me. Always had issues with the tank (not light related) so I never really got to test them out till now when I restarted everything. And it hasn't been long enough to determine anything yet.

I just don't think I could bring myself to use bulbs again. The semi annual replacement cost on say an 8 bulb T5 fixture or 4 bulb with two MH bulbs would be astronomical.

I thought this same thing also before going back to halides and t5s .... its a good $260 a year in bulbs.

But I looked at it this way ... I still feel I get better results from MHs and with leds I always worry about the when will they die on me? And if its u expected will I have the extra 500-600 to go by new units?

For me its peace of mind knowing I replace my bulbs one a year and I'm safe lol

But I still love leds and think there deff the cheaper longer term and more energy efficient route

Radion G3 Pros and planning on a few 60-72" T-5 supplemental tubes to catch the front and back of my DD tank.

I've found that stability and water changes have more of an affect on my SPS than lighting.

I've also found that some corals do great and some just don't like LEDs. I trade those out and try new ones ;) The reason so many of the TOTM's are Halides and T-5s is because these tanks are 5-10 years old and pre LED technology. Give it a few years and I bet you'll see a bunch of nice LED only tanks out there, although LED + T-5 seems to be a great combo for both look and growth.
