Hi! Just like the title says....I will start...I have a 80 gallon..4 ft long tank...a few years ago my first tang was a Kole Tang. He was great.. I lost him 3 years later due to a power outage. My 2nd tang was a yellow tang. I got him from my LFS...he was about 3 inches when I got him. After about a year he grew to a little more than 6 inches...became very aggressive....and attacked any fish I tried to add after him....I knew it was because he needed a bigger tank. Lesson learned....when people on this forum say min tank size.....take that advice....plan for the full size of the fish. Because returning my now large yellow tang to my lfs was no fun....so because of my tank size and my fish load....I have decided to leave Tangs out of my tank.

Please share your thoughts....stories....and experiences.....good or bad....it might help others learn from your experiences.*

My opinion is that larger fish become stressed even in 500 gallon aquariums. I'd much rather see more normal behavior by a well thought out stocking plan. Smaller fish inhabiting their niche is much cooler to look at and enjoy than seeing a magnificent 8-12" fish with barely any room to stretch their fins.

Cancun - are you trying to get one of us to tell you it's OK to put a Tang in that tank?:lmao:

There are so many smaller fish that are as cool as tangs and that don't require any additional

In my short experience, with tangs, they are a PITA. While all fish are susceptible to parasites, tangs seem to be magnets for the stuff. In addition, they seem to parish quickly. Add to that one has to rip apart their tank to get any fish out and it is a ton of work.

Saying all of that, they are PURDY as mentioned above...

Just found a new home for my 5-6 inch blonde naso tang. Now my purple tangs king of the tank, swimming around flashing it's colors all proud, large and in charge :)
