Polyp Lab

I tried posting in reef discussion but got no feedback so I'll try posting here. I purchased the Polyp Lab reef-resh kit a few months ago and have tried dosing it to my three tanks. I'm wondering if other people have used this product? If so then what experiences have you had? Have you heard anything about this product either? I have noticed great effects on reducing algae outbreaks, cleaner water, some brightening in some corals mainly sps, but even an anemone, and greater PE.

I have heard that one person had troubles when stopping dosing, so I tried stopping with one of my tanks. I noticed no problems at all within a month.

I run three tanks, all with refugiums and protein skimmers. One is a BB 40 gal sps frag tank with a remote sand bed, one is a 75 gallon reef with mainly soft corals and LPS and an angelfish, and the other is a 55 gal reef with 3 sebae anemones and softies and three fish.

I have noticed the most difference in my 55 gallon reef so far as water quality goes. The water is much clearer and algae growth has halted. In my frag tank I have noticed much greater PE than before on the sps corals. Even frags that weren't in good health are now polyping. I haven't noticed brightening in coral color that much, maybe just in a couple sps corals and an anemone.

So what do people think about this stuff?

I just started the system last Thursday.
I have already noticed some nuisance algae die off here is a pic for future reference.

Hi, jer77

(I need perfection file composition and easy word because I am not skilful to English.)

Whether I use Polyp Lab reef-resh kit, got into 4 months

with Polyp Lab reef-roids.

Water of my tank purified more, Color of coral became great.

This may be divided on eye because is so definite.

Certain thing is water that clarify so.

As long as concern in growth of coral, although can not say any speech,

Color of coral was improved far before use this at least.

Is good because reef-resh is simple more than zeovit and maintenance is low.

Of course, zeovit looks like excellent, but much expenses and complexity are problem to me.

In the case of me, effect began to feel since 6 weeks.

:)

Nice tank Jamnman. Good idea of posting pics. If we could get more pics that would be great.

I agree with you imthe 1 that the system is simpler than zeovit, but maybe some have seen similar results. I hope we can get more people to share their experiences.

I have been quite pleased with the Polyplab reef-resh products that I have been dosing daily as per instruction since the middle of April 2006; here is a picture of my tank 2 months back ..... if you look at the older pictures in my gallery you will note that there have been gradual improvements since using the reef-resh products.

For the last 10 months, I have observed a significant improvement in the skimmate collected as a result of the 'biofilm' formation.

Here is another tank I started using only reef-resh since I added the sps 3 months ago ... the tank was 4 mths old at the time this photo was taken ....

Nice tanks chtan! I agree that it does make the skimmer produce more skimmate from the biofilms. I have noticed this too. Thats a lot of coral for a 7 month old tank. Singapore must be great for coral. Did you notice that you could add sps sooner with using reef-resh in a new tank? Maybe it helps shorten the time for the tank to break itself in. This is also the claim of zeostart and zeolife supplements. Also it does look like your water has gotten clearer since the older pics of your one tank.

I also contacted Polyp Lab and asked them about any effects with running a refugium with their Reef-Resh system. They said it can be done with no harm to organisms or macroalgae, but they said the growth in the marcoalgae will probably slow down and have to be pruned less often. Refugiums, however, cannot be used for Zeovit systems and other similar products I've heard.

Keep the pics and opinions comming...

Thanks for the compliment ..... yes, I have observed the start-up time to introduce corals is much faster with Reef-resh ..... this was the case of the second tank where I was adding 30% of the SPS 2 weeks after I started the tank; at that time, I was not very sure if there were going to be a lot of casualities; fortunately, there was just 1 mortality.

However, the tank still runs through a cycling period; so what is happening is that I have a micro algae problem, but I managed to bring it under control by doing a weekly water change of 10 % and by totally stopping any dosing of trace elements for the last couple of months.

I also agree that the water has gotten much clearer. And this is probably the result of much more skimmate being collected with greater skimming efficiency .... I used to clean my skimmer cups once every 3 days; after using polyplab, I clean it daily unless when I m travelling.

The best time to clean the skimmer cup is during the night dosing phase when the foaming is disrupted for about an hour after adding of the reef-resh products.

It is during this time too when I add additional coral food like oyster eggs without switching off the skimmers as it does not over foam.

I just came across this product today and I'm definately intrigued. After reading about zeovit I'm still unclear on how to use it but this product seems straight forward. Drop of this and drop of that and a few ml's of this.

Anyone have a link to some specs on the stuff? I'd like to know what's in it.

Sounds almost like sugar water to me. Increased skimmate, clearer water, lower nitrates/phosphates.... might just be a carbon source?

same stuff as prodibio imo. they all function simmilarly to zeovit, ultralith, purist line etc....

very powerful stuff. watch your alk.

flint&eric, I love your signature line, "propagation is a way to spread the wealth, not make it." Very true. And it's a good way to be happy, if you're just trying to make money out of it, you lose out on the fun.

Im so echoing this statement. :smokin:

Here is their main site. How I found them was from some pictures in the LPS forum when they had dosed Reef-roids for their acans, the feeding response in the pictures was pretty amazing and I was wondering if they had some products for SPS and saw that little bundle of products.

Sounds like a manufactured pappone to me:

I. RF-Genesis
Concentrated mixture of dormant bacteria.

-Probably useless

II. RF-Fuel
Amino Acid enriched bacterial food source

"We have developed a unique fusion of organic carbon sources enriched with amino acids. RF-Fuel is a safe but highly effective carbon-based bacterial food.."

-Sounds like sugar...

III. RF-Acids
Concentrated fusion of select amino acids

-AA, as in Pappone

IV. RF-Plus
Concentrated vitamin enriched coral food

-coral food.

Doesn't sound like anything special at all...

just my ignorant 2 cents, however

;)

Hmm...maybe I'll try to figure out how zeovit works...hehe. I really want something to help me lower my nutrient levels. I'm working on a 24g nano so I don't have much to work with in regards of equipment and space. I do 10% water changes with NSW twice a week and use the tunze doc nano skimmer but I just feel like that is not enough. I get about a centimeter of skimmate twice a week when I do my water changes I clean the collection cup. I do a squirt or two of Liquid Life CoralPlankton daily and I have 3 fish that I feed every other day with cyclopeeze or frozen fish food. I have to clean my glass every few days so I'm thinking my water has some nice nutrients in it.
