Sinclair81 Great tank, a real inspiration, I did like the two tanks though. I absolutly love zoanthids (its really why I am here) and your zoa tank is the best i've seen so far, keep it up

stobry Amazing garden! Jaw-dropper, for sure. Keep up the great work! Do you ever get new colonies that do not thrive in your system? I have success with most zoas/palys in my tanks, but on occasion I will get a frag that barely grows or in the rare case looses a polyp or two. Can't seem to figure out what it is that makes so many thrive, while at the same time some new frags don't.

Zoantharia as an order tends to be pretty diverse so you need to find the correct light/ flow for each colony. Anyone claiming to have the ability to keep every morph of zoanthid happy is flat out lieing, sometimes I really laugh at the "Beginner" classification as it couldn't be farther from the truth.

Couple tips:
-Many zoanthids have horrible track records in captivity, these are usually the sought after ones adding to the frustration. Aquacultured corals just like SPS tend to be a little more resilient so buying cultured is the best way to go.

-Healthy fish food high in HUFA's is key to healthy fish and more importantly healthy fish poop. Studies on Zoantharia nutrition tend to be few and far between but generally identify dissolved organics and bacteria as a large contributors of Nitrogen and Carbon not acquired through photosynthesis. Having a healthy system which can easily turn nutrients into bacteriobiomass works wonders for zoanthids. In addition to the bacteria, fish waste and detritus is routinely captured by species from the families Parazoanthidae and Sphenopidae while Zoanthidae tend to rely more on photosynthetic processes. Identifying the family helps identify what care is required, this unfortunately is not an easy task for beginners.

-Actinics make the florescent pigments in zoas POP, the bluer the spectrum the more "Pop" you get. Of course there is a trade off with growth and color so finding the sweet spot is a tricky ordeal.

-Flow is pivotal, although branded as beginner coral high variable flow mixed with strong lighting is highly beneficial for pretty much all species of Zoantharia.

The biggest tip I can give though is once you put the colony in and find a good spot for it DONT MOVE IT. Everytime a colony moves it has to photoacclimate which can be an easy stressor, in a reef full of infectious microbes stress is the enemy.

Hope that helps buddy!

richardhao doesn't the copperband butterfly and dwarf angel nip your zoas?

Got rid of the dwarf during the swap over but neither of them ever touched the zoas, were model citizens the whole time.

spectacular aquarium ...
I follow all the movements of this post from Spain.

I also love my zoo, but here we do not have as much variety as there.

forgive my writing but I'm translating the texts on the Internet understand some words but as much as I wanted.

did anyone stateside ever find a close supplement similar to the one your using and if so what is it. also what is the amount that you mix with the fresh fish.
corey

This is probably my favorite tank on canreef. I love everything about it. I recently hit up my local superstore and picked up some of the supplement you have there and am going to give something similar to your method a shot with feeding my 120gallon. Also gonna try it with my new tank (6 gallon all zoa tank) thanks for all the info, I hope I have even 1/4 the success you have had. I have went through this thread front to back multiple times and heard you mention a "zoa care site" you had. Do you have a link to it? Anyway keep it up! Love the tank!

can you tell me what those are in the first pic? orange skirt with white paintball looking splat? thanx

Just another assorted from the LFS, almost looks like a Fire & Ice morph.

Do you know the name of these zoa's? I received a small frag of them recently but nobody could tell me the name..

Thanks and beautiful tank!

Unfortunately that colony melted on me during the swap to my new 250g, never actually had a name for it and I have never seen it again. Zoas are frustrating at times, thanks for the compliment!

You should shoot me a PM on canreef after you test it out and let me know how it works for you, I would start REALLY slow on the 6g tank not much there to dilute that excess nutrient source. I never actually got around to setting up the site (although I did purchase the domain name and hosted it), if you have any questions in particular ask away I'm always open to share my experience.

New photos to come tonight, looking to add another wrasse to the main tank any suggestions?

New rule: ASTRINIA STARFISH ARE NOT FRIENDS!!@

I wasn't sure if the Har. Shrimp would go after the little guys but he had one in his mouth within 5 mins of being released.

Ya I will for sure shoot you a message. I'm definitely going to start really slow with the 6 gallon and see how it goes. You guys should know something, the product that he used to feed is now recalled due to lactose issues so the product is no longer available up here. There are a ton of similar product so just be patient, read the labels, and keep an eye on that copper level. By the way, I would KILL for sOme of your frags! If you are interested in shipping, and do some fragging, pm me.

oh my God. I love it! I can imagine the work you put into it. I have many of the same kinds as you, so we have similar "ones we think are pretty". :)
I only hope to have them turn into large colonies like you've grown.
I pray i can take a photo of them someday that come out as well as yours do. I can never seem to get the camera or video to show what the colors really look like to the eye when the zoas fluoresce. Yours shows exactly the color.
Well done! :)

I prefer to stay away from the snips but I will be taking them out when I finally set up a frag tank, would prefer trades over cash but I'm easy going!

Thank you so much for the kind words Lily! A good camera and photoshop do wonders to represent zoas, it takes a little practice but a little change in the WB, Contrast and Shadow saturation do the trick nicely.

tbettis subcribing. funny how know one still knows the ingredients.
It's just a run of the mill multigreen supplement, no secret ingredients here haha :lol2:.

JCeballos27 DUDE.... this system I'd awesome!!! I have a nice colony of these growing but never knew the name. Can you help with that? Thanks!!

If its the large green colony then they are "Radioactive Green Dragon Eyes" or something to that sort, one of the more common morphs out there but certainly a stunner!

Time for some new underwaters:
