Polyps Galore, 70+ Colony Zoa tank

Beautiful, Beautiful tank. A testament to your dedication to the hobby.

I can't believe I didn't see this while reading the whole thread - what lighting and blubs do you use?

Thanks,

G.

bif24701 WOW, some day I want my tank to be just half as impressive as that one.

MD Ocean Girl Wow! Your tanks are beautiful! Definitely an inspiration to me....I'm planning on doing a mostly zoa/paly scape in my tank, but on a much much smaller hscale

PAS Photography Awesome Tank!!! Lots of info here.

cullyisgully WOW nice zoa tank....
Thanks for the compliments folks :D.

I love your tank, how long have you been collecting and growing zoas? Where do you get them?

First coral I ever purchased was a brown and red zoa frag when I was 17, I'm turning 22 this year so I've been collecting for about 4.5 years. Most of the purchases are from the LFS but a few are trades with fellow reefers.

Currently I'm using a 4' 8X54W T5 Fixture (4 Actinics with 4 day lights).

annndddd just to drive all you Americans crazy, I picked up this rock in the "brown" section of a local lfs for $29.95.
I would go ahead and guess there Midas Zoas but anyone want's to verify it would be appriciated.

Uhhh Im 23 and I wish I had a setup/collection/room that nice!! Are you in college with all this?! If so thats crazy, I can barely handle my 40br while in college!

i2as kass you are an inspiration to us all, thank you for sharing your success with us.

You mention your running 4' 8X54W T5 Fixture (4 Actinics with 4 day lights). What brand blubs and fixtures do you us? Also I remember reading that you feed at night with under moon light? What type of moon lighting do you use? And lastly (sorry for all the lighting questions) would you share your lighting schedule.

i2as kass, I'd like to try you feeding regimen... or at least some sort of late night target feeding in my mixed reef.

I have tons of water volume and capacity to remove nutrient so I'm not worried about that so much... just curious if you think I could target feed the zoa colonies instead of broadcast feeding the entire tank? Have you tried doing it that way before? Like with a turkey baster for example.

Man this tank is so nice!
Congratulations on a world wide famous tank.
GOt only one thing to say about your polyp specific tank.... a big
Thanks everyone, snapped some new photos tonight hope you enjoy.

Student loans are wonderful things:worried:.

Im in college too and its a matter of not procrastinating. My reef help me turn my Hw on time
My reef does not help me turn homework in on time, quite the opposite actually haha.

Those midas zoos are awesome. looks like they have little blue leds in them. Nice find!
Thanks, always nice to find a sweet morph.

Bulbs are 4 giesemann aquablue + and 4 Korallen-Zucht Super Blues and my moon lights are the duel R2 Model (10 LEDS total), I guess you could say I'm cheating on the spectrum :worried:. I haven't been feeding much as of late as I have been really busy, but when the semester is finished I will be upgrading to a 250g more to come.

Oh and the lights are on:
Actinics- 9-9
Day lights- 11-7

Target feeding will work just fine if you shut off the flow, I have started doing it as my tank is a little to large now for broadcast feeding.

Great tank, a real inspiration, I did like the two tanks though. I absolutly love zoanthids (its really why I am here) and your zoa tank is the best i've seen so far, keep it up

Amazing garden! Jaw-dropper, for sure. Keep up the great work! Do you ever get new colonies that do not thrive in your system? I have success with most zoas/palys in my tanks, but on occasion I will get a frag that barely grows or in the rare case looses a polyp or two. Can't seem to figure out what it is that makes so many thrive, while at the same time some new frags don't.
