i have a pom pom crab in a 3 gallon pico and he has seemed to have let go of one of his pom poms...

any idea why this would happen?

I don't know much about Pom Pom's but my both my Harlequin shrimp and my porcelain crab have lost claws and they both grew them back.

WHite, from what I have read, they hold onto their anemones, and they can put them down (like when they molt) and pick them back up. I don't know where they "harvest" their anemones from in the wild, or if they would somehow encourage the anemone to split if they lost one. You could look up "Bunodeopsis" -- that is the genus of anemone that the pom pom/boxer crabs use.

My friend has one. It should be fine. From what I understand the anenomes that they carry are only found on them, no where else. If they only have one they will split it and put it on the other claw. Also they will give one to another pom pom crab that has lost theirs. Yours is probably molting and will pick it back up once done like Elysia said. So dont remove it from the tank just let it do its thing. They are really neat creatures and fun to watch.
