Thanks Bart. It's the Florida crush coral by CaribSea. That's what I use in my Ca reactor. I wanted something big so they won't get blown around and it's good as a buffer also.

Thanks FFrankie. The lighting over the prop tank consists of a 250W SE Radium 20k in a Lumenmax II driven by a Galaxy ballast. There are also 2 x 24" T5 driven by an IC 430 for supplement.


lho, you can get the all the insulation materials from either Lowes or HD. The silver insulation is called Reflectix and comes in rolls. Good luck.

I have a few pieces of 2 foot by 4 foot 3/4 inch acrylic sitting aroung, waiting to become a tank. . .

how did you cut the pieces down to size? Did you have someone do it for you? I tried to use a router, and could not get flat clean edges. . .

I think in general you use a table saw for the long cuts and use a laminate bit on the router for the finished edges?

I could be wrong.

Thanks old95er. Dan is correct on the initial cuts with a table saw. Usually a laminate blade or something with a high teeth count, 60+, is the best. Then you can use a router table with a straight bit to clean up the edges. You can't do handheld on this part. I actually had someone cut these for me b/c my table saw is underpowered for 3/4" thick acrylic. HTH.

Yeah, I used a circular saw with a laminate high tooth count blade. I was able to get the rough cuts, just not the finish; although I was using a handheld router. . .I need a router table for another project, so I guess it's time. . .
also I have a saw table, maybe I should stop fooling around and do it right.

Not much has changed lately. I did leave for 7 days recently and came back to a dirty tank, nothing more. Nothing died or grew out of control The pH in the Ca reactor did drop pretty low but did not affect the tank pH in any way, just made the reactor chamber really cloudy. Maybe it's time to get a controller.
